Robyn's E News 20 Aug 08

Hi All,

Midweek already. The excitement is mounting for this weekend's NT Long Course Triathlon Championships. Bikes are being checked & speculation on individual form is a major talking point. Teams have firmed up, with a number of very competitive threesomes combining for the day. I believe accommodation is booked out down at Berry Springs so there will be a long line of cars heading down on race morning. Competitors are hoping for warm water and a mild morning.

2. Emma Snowsill ran 33.17 for the 10km. That included a jump over the barriers.

3. It may be a bit chilly in the mornings lately but think it is preferable to the conditions Nikki Roddie and Ian Norton are training in at the moment - 42 degrees & 70% humidity in Qatar.

4. The NT Long Course is a selection points event for the 2009 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Perth next year. Check selection criteria at www.triathlon.org.au

5. Ali Fitch is one of a star studded line-up for Ironman Canada this weekend. We have declared her run of IM bad luck over (hope the man upstairs is listening). Good luck Ali.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you know where all the potholes are within a 20km radius of your place
... you have chafing in strange places
... your heart rate is below 50 and you are not dying

Safe training
Cheers
Robyn

Hi All,
Another weekend has disappeared in a blur of activity & perfect weather (well, ok I agree, it was a bit windy on the bike at times). I have a faint suspicion that the build up will sneak up on us, so make the best of the cooler mornings.

All eyes now turn to the NT Long Course Triathlon Championships on Sunday. If you can help out please contact Matt directly. Hope those competing in teams are now all sorted. I suggest you get in to K9 Cycles and/or CycleZone early this week. Gel supplies are known to run out.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Starting in 2009, the Ford Ironman World Championship and all qualifying events will implement both the International Triathlon Federation and USA Triathlon’s Age Group Competition rule, which states that “All age group athletes must participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31 of the year of the event.”

“We are adopting the rule to provide consistency internationally,” says Ben Fertic, the president of Ironman. “Our adoption of the ITU’s "Age Up" rule will establish a common thread and consistency among Ironman events around the globe.”

The adoption of the rule will also ensure that athletes will compete in the same age category throughout any given race year.

2. At the Olympics, the Aussie's are apparently going to wear a trisuit which blends with the colour of the water in Beijing. They are hoping the suits may stop them being subject to "accidental contact" in the water. They will also be sipping on slurppies and wear ice vests prior to the event. It appears that the course is similar to that in Sydney according to reports from athletes.

3. Members went well overall at the Beach2Bridge. Kyle & Sophie were overall and respective age group winners. Other age group winners included Brian Gallagher, Mick Outhred, Amanda Donohoe, Monica Stewart and Tim Ellison.

4. Among those competing at B2B was new mum Hollie Goodall. Great to see our 06/07 Aquathlon Series champion back in action.

5. Matt White is thanking his lucky stars after doing some gymnastics over a car bonnet yesterday. Matt got hit his way home when a car pulled into a driveway and didn't see him. He needs a new front wheel and handlebars but is miraculously unscathed.

6. More Matt news, this time the jetsetting King, has the Tour of Ireland coming up soon. It's a toughie.

7. Don't forget to tune in to the Women's Olympic Triathlon this morning. 11.30am our time.

8. The guy's race is tomorrow around same time. Exciting.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

...you drink more water in a day than most people do in a week
...your toenails are falling off
...you can add up miles and metres in your head, any other maths and you need a calculator.

GO EMMA, ERIN, EMMA, COURTNEY & BRAD,

Cheers
Robyn
