OTHER NEWS:

1. Participants gain entry into the Ford Ironman World Championship one of three ways: by qualifying for a slot at one of more than twenty events held worldwide, by winning a slot through Ironman’s charitable eBay Auction or by being selected in the Ironman Lottery. Recognized as one of the most in-demand athletic events in the world, nearly 60,000 athletes vie for one of 1,800 coveted slots to the Ford Ironman World Championship, taking place in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, each year.

2. The 2009 Ironman Lottery Program officially opened on Wednesday, October 1 at 12:00 p.m. EST. Athletes interested in earning a slot through the Ironman Lottery must apply by Saturday, February 28, 2009 with all winning entries being announced on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. A vision of Ironman founder, John Collins, the Ironman Lottery began in 1983 as a way to provide athletes of all abilities the opportunity to qualify for the world’s most challenging endurance event. The Ironman Lottery awards 150 domestic (USA), 50 international and 5 physically challenged slots that are chosen randomly from more than 7,000 lottery entries. More info: www.ironman.com/faq/lotteryfaq

3. Club Champion Jerome Bosmans will be on hand at the junior event on Sunday to assist with distribution of packs to the kids. Jerome made a donation from his NT Sports Award prize to assist with the purchasing of some great gear for the juniors. A grant from Woolworths has also helped. Congratulations to the junior committee on the flying start to the season. The program continues to improve and registration day attracted around 60 youngsters, many of whom were returning for another season. We encourage you all to call in on Sunday and assist with the junior event. If you are out training, also swing past .. the kids love to see all the "flash" grown up tri toys.

4. The XTERRA course at Maui, Hawaii is a classic point-to-point race covering 27-miles of unyielding terrain. Conditions change radically from year-to-year, diminishing the advantage to repeat competitors and perpetuating the course's stature as the most intimidating in the series. Participants are not permitted to pre-ride the course so for newcomers, it's read and react. The bike course is full of rockstrewn paths, gnarly golf ball sized gravel, short steep and long go-forever climbs, hard packed lava and deep, dusty silt. There's more than 2,500 total feet of climbing and one can never predict how hot it might be on race day. The reputation is brutal and very well deserved. Hawaii's natural obstacles are unlike anywhere else on earth and out on the run more than a dozen different surfaces and Maui's most stunning oceanfront scenery awaits competitors. More info: www.xterraplanet.com

5. Score: Chain rings 2 Athletes 0. Mark Anzin was the latest to be attacked by those pesky little chain rings & has had to get some treatment. Good excuse for a little bit of R & R.

6. Some people are using the up and coming duathlons as an excuse to ease off the swim training. No names.

7. There are still some uniforms to be collected. Please contact Jane-Marie 0429 998 722 to arrange pickup.

8. Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championship splits are now posted to club website & some photos on the Flickr page.

Hi All,

The Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships got underway in hot conditions at Lake Bennett. Luckily a pleasant breeze arrived in time to cool things down for back markers on the run. Race Director Ian Norton set a new bench mark ... Ian arranged for sponges soaked in ice water to be available & these were given a resounding thumbs up by competitors. Ian was supported by a crew of volunteers who worked many hours to have the best possible course marked out for the Club Champs. Thanks to Ian and helpers, your efforts were appreciated by all.

... you are overcommitted and don't even try to fit everything in
... you don't sweat something that is out of your control
... you can finally bring yourself to cut off that wristband
