This package includes Ultegra pedals, carbon bottle cage, computer, standard wheels and Zipp 606 carbon tubular wheel sets ! The Zipps have GP4000 tyres and an Ultegra cluster. The whole package has only done 222km. Replacement cost is over $8000, asking $6000. Contact Pete on 0402 346 194

2. FOR SALE: Kayaks - Get in early for the '09 Katherine Ultra Challenge - 2x kayaks and paddles for sale.

a) 2006 Spirit racing surf ski and carbon paddle. Ski has a trailing rudder for river use - doesn't catch on rocks. It is a stable and fast 'sit-on' plastic ski. See http://www.spiritpaddle.com.au/content.asp?cId=3&pId=6 for specs. Paddle is a Spirit Elite carbon wing paddle - see same web site for details. Replacement cost is over $1600, asking $1000.

b) Down River Racer and carbon paddle. Similar to a TK1 kayak -fast and stable but requires a little TLC. Both pieces are experienced 'Ultra' performers 'As purchased' pricing - $300 for both. Contact Pete on 0402 346 194 for more details.

3. New items or rerun requests for this section by 5pm Sunday please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Some great bargains in the For Sale / Wanted section today. Pete has a house that requires renovations... say no more.

2. Pete tells us that the Spirit kayak is as used in the Katherine Ultra Challenge by reigning two time champ Ian Norton. And the downriver racer was previously used by legends Daryl Stanley and Emma Winterflood for KUC. They won't last so if you are interested get in fast.

3. Organisers are currently firming dates for both KUC and City2Surf.

4. Last Sunday, Texan Michael Hennessey broke the Guinness World Record for most Ironman triathlons in a calendar year. Ford Ironman Arizona, where he clocked a respectable 12.42, was Michael’s 15th Ironman finish since March 2008. With the goal of raising awareness for the chromosomal disorders trisomy 13 and 18, Michael averaged two Ironman races per month, racing on two consecutive weekends in both April and August, and THREE consecutive weekends in July. His slowest time was 14:28 (Oklahoma City), and he managed a PB of 10.48 in Austria. In addition to raising awareness, Michael’s charity ‘Ironman for Kids’ is now purchasing specially designed trikes and bikes for trisomy kids. Regardless of whether you share his spiritual motivation, it’s hard to deny this is a massive (albeit crazy) accomplishment. To check out Michael’s times go to: http://ironmanforkids.com/sponsorship.
5. Amanda Donohoe, Craig Garland, Anthony Beven, Monica Stewart & Mick Outhred will be among members competing in the first of the new Triathlon Australia Challenge Series events when they head down to Adelaide this weekend. Good luck to all!

6. Entries close Friday for the Canberra Half Ironman (14 Dec). The event website www.canberrahalf.com has lots of info on travel and accommodation if you are interested.

7. Wow, I just checked the Flickr hits. Now rapidly approaching 13,800 !

8. Bicycling NT is looking out for us. Annie (Chair Bicycling NT) recently requested a meeting with the Dept of Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) to see how they were accommodating cyclists' needs as part of the major works taking place at Wishart Rd and (other) intersection near Kormilda College. For more info see www.bicyclent.org.au

OTHER NEWS:

1. Close to 50 kids participated in the junior triathlon at the Ski Club. A special thanks to the many volunteers who helped out, especially those who don’t have kids participating. All the kids had great fun and all went smoothly. Luckily they were swimming in the Ski Club pool as a shark was spotted swimming just out the front of the Ski Club. The juniors are now looking forward to the Christmas Aquathlon with the Seniors on 6th Dec at Nightcliff pool at 6pm. Always a highlight on our calendar.

2. Ali Fitch was forced to withdraw on the run in IM Arizona this morning. Ali had come through the field into 3rd on the run before an injury sustained late on the bike took its toll.

3. The women's leaderboard at IM Arizona was a constantly changing affair. Gotta love those live race updates for excitment.

4. Keiran Doe did most of the run at IM AZ in his socks.

5. The pace was up at the duathlon yesterday and a few of the guys were redlining. One even forgot to dismount at the line. A couple of others came out of the roundabout like they had another lap to go & almost locked up at the dismount line. One lost some time with a wrong turn on the final run. But boys being boys they sure looked like they were having fun while they smashed themselves. Good to watch unfold.

6. The Evolution Stair Run filled up fast and closed quickly. Competitors will make the climb this weekend & they include a number of our members.

7. Christmas drinks were enjoyed on Friday. The diehards were last seen heading for Throb. Any news after that ???

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... a new race location announcement raises your interest level
... you are happy the duathlon series is done and won

OTHER NEWS:

1. Some Clearwater residents are up in arms after 70.3 Worlds last weekend. They are asking if the disruption to traffic is worth it & questioning the value of the event especially to those business that lose access during the race. Poor Race Directors have a lot to cope with to bring us our favourite events.

2. Lee Wilson recently travelled to Bendigo to complete a Level 2 athletics coaching course. Lee is now a qualified Level 2 Athletics (Middle and long distance running specific) coach and is able to offer DTC and runners club members specific running/technique coaching.

3. Canberra Half Ironman (14 Dec) early entries close 28 Nov 08. Already three NTers entered.

4. Pro triathlete Ali Fitch heads back to USA this week to kick off her next Ironman campaign. Good luck Ali!

5. It's great to see so many people out there training at the moment. A number are recovering from recent bouts of the flu. Ouch, I can relate to that.

6. Mick Outhred had to wait for a funeral to pass in the middle of his ride in the Lombok International Triathlon. It's billed as the toughest triathlon in Asia and appears it lives up to its name. Many of the dns' on the results list took one look at the bike course and opted out.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you avoid puddles because you don't want to get your bike dirty.
... you are very happy to sit around in training gear
... you are disappointed that airfares to your favourite event destinations always seem to go up just as you decide to book.

Triathlon 3 x the fun (except in duathlon season)
Cheers
