Robyn's E News 20 July 09

One of our enthusiastic volunteers at Sprint Race 3

Hi All,

Competitors in Race 3 of the Sprint Series again experienced near perfect triathlon conditions. The wind was up a little on the bike course but cooler conditions made for quick run times.

Our thanks to Race Director for the day, Dean Preddy, and all those who volunteered to assist with this event. Dean was still out there retrieving signs long after many of us had our feet up. Without all the offers of assistance our events couldn't go ahead and we really appreciate the efforts of all those who volunteer.

We get a bit of a break from triathlon competition now until our Long Course. But, as is usual at this time of year, there are a number of other events to take up the slack.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Yesterday's event was Jerome Bosman's last hit out with the club. Poor thing, he is relocating to an exotic island location. He is around for a few more weeks yet & I hear his farewell party is in final planning stages. Jerome has contributed to lots of thrilling racing over the years and who could forget the excitement when he made the podium at ITU Long Distance Worlds in Lorient? We know part of his heart will remain with his Top End friends and that we may be able to tempt him back for a visit sometime.

2. The mystery man in the race 3 sprint field was Todd Israel. He certainly put the cat among the pigeons. He is racing for the British Long Distance team in Perth in October.

3. Roland Edwards was also competing in his last club event before heading off for cooler climes. Roland has already picked his tri club in Adelaide. We wish Roland good luck with his new job and hope to see him back for a race sometime in the future.

4. Vicki Woodrow was also a welcome visitor at the event. On a flying visit back to Darwin, Vicki was able to catch up with lots of old friends as well as show us she can still put in a good tri effort. "It's that residual base", she said.

5. Would you rather spend your weekends doing something more fun than cleaning the house? If so, one of our members can help! Bec Thyne says she will provide a professional and reliable cleaning service for homes of all shapes and sizes. She will come to your house once a week or once a fortnight for a minimum of 3 hours and do all of the basics, or you can ask for specific jobs to be done such as windows, fans, palm frond collecting or…the oven. She is also happy do one off cleaning jobs. Cost is $30 per hour with all cleaning equipment and cleaning agents provided (except vacuum cleaner). References available. Call Bec Thyne on 0408 878 689 or email rebecca.thyne@gmail.com to find out more.

6. Some of our members teamed up for the Leah Cullen 10km swim on Saturday. They included Pete Brady, Brian Gallagher, Hollie Goodall, Roland Edwards, Graeme Parsons, Jason Jones and Heath Porter.

7. Club president John Thyne is usually a modest sort of bloke but just ask him at the moment and he will tell you that he has finally cracked the magic 20 min mark for 5km run! He nailed it at Runners Club at Amy Johnson on Wednesday and to prove it wasn't a fluke did it again yesterday.

8. And Mick Outhred probably won't tell you, but that's him (looking very professional) on Page 11 of TMSM Training Guide (have a quick peek at your newsagent).

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you don't know a thing about last night's stage of the Tour because you couldn't stay awake that long
... your child comes home with the school record for running and tells you that he took it out in a nice pace he could hold and everyone else died
... your bike is cleaner than your car

Cheers,
Robyn
