OTHER NEWS:

1. Swimming NT’s Open Water Championships are on Saturday 3 October 2009 to be held at Lake Bennett (open to registered members of NT Swimming, Surf, Tri and Masters Clubs). 1.2km, 5km and 10km (if minimum of 3 entries) will be conducted. Entry $20 Registration 7-7.30am for 8am start. Further information: www.ntswimming.org.au

2. I'm hoping those competing in the Gold Coast Half Ironman this weekend don't catch up with former member Matt Redwood during the event! He's a draft official this year and hated the packs when he competed last year. We wish Matt all the best on the back of the motorbike and good luck in splitting up the competitors.

3. You will have missed Mark Edmonds at recent events. His first love, of course, is sailing and he has moved to Sydney for the next 6 months to train with the NSW Institute of Sport and Olympic Development Scholarship under the guidance of one of sailing's best laser coaches. Unfortunately he will be out of the tri scene this year and he has been trying to put on weight - and has managed to get 10kgs on since the Arafura Games Triathlon. We wish Mark all the best with this fantastic sporting opportunity.

4. Triathlon Australia recently announced that Sydney will revisit its Olympic Games glory days when Sydney Harbour and the Opera House are showcased to the world when it hosts a leg of the 2010 ITU Triathlon World Championship Series in April.

The announcement, made recently by the Premier of NSW the Hon. Nathan Rees on the Opera House steps alongside Australia’s newly crowned world champion Emma Moffatt, will see Sydney host a leg of a global eight race series for the next three years. It is a joint initiative between Events NSW, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and Triathlon Australia.

The event, to be held on April 11, will feature elite competitors only in 2010. The following year it will expand to accommodate thousands of age group athletes, who will have the chance to ride over the Sydney Harbour Bridge on a multi-loop circuit.

5. Good luck to those heading south next week for the Melbourne Marathon.

6. Scody will be dispatching club uniforms shortly. Hoping they will be here to distribute when I get back from the Big Island.

Safe training,

Cheers,

Robyn
