Robyn's E News 4 Nov 09

Hi All,

I wonder how many of you, like me, completely forgot the Melbourne Cup? No sweep, no bets & wondered why the shop assistant was telling me to shush (the Cup was being run and they were listening to the background radio) when I was getting lunch ?? Well ... it was a busy day at work !!

For those of you who have not yet renewed or taken out membership of Darwin Triathlon Club, don't forget it's a very, very easy process these days as it can be done online. We have a shed load of events happening on our calendar so I would encourage you to go online to
https://www.securedvirtualnet.com/Sma/Triath/ and on the right hand side select New Membership or Renew Membership.

You can print out your receipt and bring it with you on Friday evening to the Splash N Dash at the Wave Pool Recreation Lagoon. Club membership is great value for money and joining up is often the trigger you need to come down and participate more often in our events.

What about signing up your partner as an early Christmas present ... now there's an idea ! Please note that our student membership category is for full time uni students only.

OTHER NEWS :

1. Did you get your vote in for Ironman Craig Alexander in the Australian Sports Performer of the Year? You can vote at http://www.performerawards.com.au/ .

2. Lance Armstrong has flogged off some old bikes for charity and raised a cool 1.3 million dollars for Livestrong.

3. Pro triathlete and obviously exceptional runner, Desiree Ficker finished in 10th with a time of 2:39:30 in the New York Marathon.

4. Cadel Evans has a book out (just in time for Christmas) It's called ‘Cadel Evans: close to flying’ .

5. A few more of our "Mum's to be" are counting down the weeks and wondering how time can go so slowly. That's a ditto for the Dad's as well.

6. Cycling Promotion Fund research has highlighted that tax incentives are considered an effective motivation to encourage more Australians to cycle to work. Lobby on !

7. Hoping to get some photos from the junior tri up on Flickr today.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you can bin four pairs of runners in various stages of decomposition and still not have enough room on the shoe rack
... you feel like you took the day off because all you did was swim two laps of Lake Alexander
... you tell your parents that you are going to "do a long brick" on Saturday and just expect that they know what you are talking about

See you all at the lagoon on Friday evening,
Cheers,
Robyn
