OTHER NEWS:

1. Flying high at the start of 2009 with Australia hosting the World Triathlon Olympic and Sprint Distance Championships this year – the ACT Sprint Championships has made history by being the first ever race held in the ACT to reach a capacity field!!!! The race this Sunday is a selection race for those wishing to make the Australian Sprint Triathlon Team. Very heavy interstate interest along with strong local entries has meant that entries had to close yesterday and no late entries will be accepted for this event on the day. If you have entered this event and are unable to compete, please email them urgently as they have a wait list of people very keen to compete. (admin@triathlonact.com.au)

2. Training session: Lee Wilson has hired out Nightcliff pool on Sunday morning to conduct a brick session for some DTC members. If any DTC members wish to utilise the pool between 5:30am – 6:30am then you are welcome to come along. Please advise Lee as numbers will be limited due to public liability ratio’s. The cost will be $3 to cover the hire of the facility but it will depend on numbers attending. If numbers are low it may be a couple of dollars more. Any members wishing to participate in the brick training session are more than welcome, the format will be 1.9km swim/50km ride/10km run (a 2 km loop will be set up for the run so you can do a shorter run if you wish, the weather will be monitored and run cut short if it’s too hot). Cost $2.50. Any questions or if you wish to attend please email or call Lee 0437 700 422 or Lee.wilson@ausport.gov.au.

3. Many members are returning to Darwin after the Christmas New Year break & some look like they have done a bit of secret training while away.

4. There are a couple of you still to receive your club uniforms. Please see me at the race on Saturday & collect. Thanks to Jodie McLeod for her efforts in sorting the sizing problems with the swimwear with Scody. Scody have also generously sent race belts.

Safe training,
Cheers
Robyn

Robyn's E News 5 Jan 09

Hi All,

Here's hoping that you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year where ever you may have spent it. The New Year brings another set of triathlon goals for most of us and that usually starts with the promise to do all the club events. We kick the year off this weekend with Race 1 of the Aquathlon Series, just a nice little 300m swim followed by a 3km gallop....hope to see you all there.

NEXT EVENT:

Saturday 10 Jan 2009
Nightcliff Pool

Race 1 Aquathlon Series
300m swim, 3km run

Race Director: Daryl Stanley 8985 6883

COMMITTEE NEWS:

1. There will be some changes to the race rosters of upcoming events. This is due largely to some members relocating interstate. Please check the E News roster announcements carefully to see if you have been drawn in as a replacement.

FOR SALE / WANTED ETC:

1. FOR SALE: Club Uniform - We have a minimum number of ladies 1 piece swimmers (Size 12 M) available $70; 1 x XS Ladies Tri Suit $155
Email if you are interested.

2. FOR SALE: Trek 56cm Road/Tri bike, 16 speed, Shimano ultegra gears and brakes, Brontrager wheels, 2 water bottle holders, high pressure pump, Bike stand, size 10 shoes, blue/white, excellent condition, $1900. Contact Gary 0401 148 670

3. Items for this section by 8pm tomorrow please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Our aquathlon starts at 6pm Saturday. Don't be like one of our members who turned up at 5.30am Sunday for the Xmas Splash n Dash!

2. Now that's probably a Dag of the Year nomination, I'll make a note! We are at the half way point of the year - if you know of a daggy deed (or deeds) done by a member, write them down and send them to darwintriclub@bigpond.com today. Trust me, come nomination time you won't remember half of them. All nominations will be confidential.

3. Sophie Hawken is leaving the heat and humidity of Darwin. She and Kim are moving to Hobart and head out tomorrow. But will she be able to handle the winter weather is the question? We are taking bets that Soph comes back up during the dry to escape the Tasmanian winter chill. We wish them both all the best in the future.

4. Fantastic news ... It has been announced that Michellie Jones will be racing IM Australia this year.

5. Confirmation of dates for ITU World Duathlon Championships - 26-27 September 09 North Carolina, USA.

6. On recent rides both Mick Outhred and David Croser have been seen doing unscheduled ground inspections. Not much damage except to ego.

7. John Thyne often does the Bridport Triathlon. I'm wondering if the 15 degree water temp. was the reason he flew out before the race this year?

8. If you are riding out near Finlays (near the highway) beware of the dog! It may look overweight and old but it still has a turn of speed. Ask Rob Brooks.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN....

... eating everything in sight is natural to you
... you consider a 10km run a good cure for a hangover
... you have chafing in strange places

Safe training,
Cheers
Robyn
