Robyn's E News 29 July 09

Hi All,

Can you believe it's almost the end of July? That means the NT Long Course Championship is just two and a half weeks away ! Hope you have your entry in and that training is going well.

It also means that you have only 2 more days to renew or join Darwin Triathlon Club for 2009/2010 at the early bird discount rate. I've attached the how to join online again so you can do it immediately and not miss out. (Having difficulty, email and I'm happy to assist where possible - it may just mean you have moved or changed email addresses to that currently in the system.)

Check out the For Sale / Wanted section in this edition for some great bike bargains. Parents of juniors may also want to take a peek as there are a number of smaller bikes included.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Tour question: 21 days of racing, over 100 riders, feed zones on almost every stage ... did anyone see a banana?

2. Don't forget that the velodrome will not be available for use between 6 August 09 and 23 August 09 (being used for a Tracks dance production).

3. Sophie Hawken and Kim Stevens are expecting a visit from the stork in January. Sophie thinks her world is about to change !

4. Many of you have been asking about items of club uniform. We usually operate on a pre pay system and only order what is required. Very few items are kept as stock (usually only get extra if we are almost at minimum order numbers) so that the club doesn't get stuck with them. I'm currently looking into sourcing club bathers, nicks & tri tops etc from a new supplier & possibly going back to standard "Darwin Triathlon Club" printing. A quick indication by return email of what items you would likely order & approx sizes would be appreciated. Also an indication of your price range may help negotiations.

5. Interest in the Tour de Timor (www.tourdetimor.com ) continues to grow and a number of our members are locked in already.
YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you know that everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for the next
... you open & read E News before a long string urgent work messages
... you need directions or assistance so you approach the first person who comes along in a tri t-shirt or cap or carrying a water bottle

Enjoy the long stuff,
Cheers,
Robyn

OTHER NEWS:

1. Olympic champion, Emma Snowsill, has undergone keyhole surgery to repair minor damage to the labrum cartilage of her hip.

2. Jason Shortis made the podium at IM Lake Placid, crossing in 3rd spot in 8.58.09.

3. Please note that the velodrome will not be available for use between 6 August 09 and 23 August 09 because it is being used for a Tracks dance production.

4. Our congratulations to Hollie & Tim who tied the knot.

5. Anyone entering IM WA or IM Australia will be in the running to win a return flight to Hawaii. Hawaii Airlines are giving away FOUR return flights from Sydney to Hawaii in 2010. A random draw of two names will take place - that's two winners from each event.

6. And another competition currently running can win you two places on the 2009 TriTravel Hawaii tour. This one requires you to purchase a TriumphTriaction sports bra before 13 Sept 09.

7. If you thought you saw Steve Denton in town over the weekend you were right. Steve's back for a few days.

8. More spotting, Jenny Kirby is back in Darwin working for a few weeks and Kris & Stacey Bitz have returned from a stint overseas.

9. Also at the half marathon yesterday we were well represented in the team categories, including Ernie Koch who teamed with Arum Mahajani in "Team Oldies". Well done guys. Peter Stephens teamed with son Hamish and Lee Wilson & Donna were also among those who teamed up.

10. A thought for reducing the T d F ... only have the Verbier climb and an individual time trial .. that's where it was all done and won.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you find yourself checking out the bikes rather than the gorgeous guy/gal riding them !
... you run with a fuel belt
... your main attire consists of old event t shirts (dead giveaway)

Cheers,
Robyn
