Robyn's E News 19 April 2010

Hi All,

Busy weekend for many. Lots of training happening around in and out of town. Some also ventured out to Fred's Pass for a gallop and others went out to have a crack at Channel Island.

Our Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships take place this weekend.

For those of you who didn't know Kerran (1/2/1962 - 31/12/2001) he was President of Darwin Triathlon Club during season 1999/2000 and was a great supporter of our club events. Popular and enthusiastic, members were deeply shocked to hear of Kerran's death following an accident at his home. Our first club championships were introduced in 2002 and the trophies named in his honour to ensure his love of our sport and his contribution to its development in Darwin and the NT will always be remembered.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Loretta Harrop had a good result yesterday at the Gold Coast. Now mother of two, she came out to play for her brother's memorial race and clocked 1.06.10 and finished in 4th.

2. ConocoPhillips have advised they are having a maintenance shut down from now until 21 May. They advise that there will be increased large bus activity on the road from Darwin to Palmerston (Tiger Brennan Drive) and Palmerston to the LNG Plant (Channel Island Road) between 5am and 7-00am and 5pm and 7-00pm. In particular there will be 4 buses going out to the plant each morning between 5am and 7am and returning at 5pm to 7pm.

The plant are being fantastic with notifying the cycling community about the increased risk during that time. They also regularly remind employees and contractors to watch for cyclists using the road.

We can reciprocate by avoiding the routes mentioned during those peak times and by being very safety alert. Suggest you also keep to the left of the lane and wear bright visible clothing & lights if you must be out there - at any time, not just during the shutdown period.

3. The one hour highlights package from Ironman Australia will be screened on Channel 9 from 1-2pm on Sunday 9 May . Keep an eye on your local television guide, in case of programming changes.

4. Weekend form guide: John Thyne is running so far and so fast he requires singlet changes mid way; Korgan Hucent appears to have found a touch of swimming magic; Sue Parora is Lake Bennett ready and Luke Collopy knows how to pick the right time to get a flat.

5. Alice Springs Masters Games triathlon on line entries close 10 Sept 2010.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
