Robyn's E News 10 May 2010

Hi All,

We had a fantastic turnout for our triathlon at Lake Alexander yesterday. With a definite dry season nip in the air, RD Dingo Hall got us all set up and ready to go. A big thank you to Dingo and all who assisted on the day. It was very impressive to watch close to eighty eager triathletes on the start line, with a number of those lining up for their first ever tri experience.

It's been great to welcome our new members who have recently joined up. (Easy to do online, see link below).

5. I've hade some questions on the new rules being introduced by WTC for their M Dot IM & 70.3 events. Note: the rulings take effect from 1 September 2010:

Swimwear:
Swimwear and swim apparel must be comprised of 100 percent textile material, such as nylon or lycra, and may not include rubberized material such as polyurethane or neoprene. Swimwear may not cover the neck or extend past the shoulders or knees. Swimwear may contain a zipper. A race kit or trisuit may be worn underneath swimwear.

Wetsuit:
Wetsuits cannot measure more than 5 millimeters thick.
Wetsuits may be worn in water temperatures up to and including 24.5 degrees Celsius/76.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures exceeding 24.5 degrees C /76.1 degrees F will not be eligible for awards, including World Championship slots. Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 28.8 degrees C/84 degrees F.

As always, if you are entering any triathlon anywhere, please familiarise yourself with the rules associated with that event. Here in Australia most, but not all, events use Triathlon Australia Race Competition Rules. Darwin Triathlon Club and Triathlon NT events are run in accordance with TARCR rules.

6. The 1 Sept introduction of the rule changes is a deliberate choice. On that date all worldwide qualifiers for 2010 Ironman World Champs (Hawaii) and 70.3 World Champs (Clearwater) are complete. Any 2010 events after that date qualify for IM & 70.3 World Champs in 2011. Hope that's now clearer.

7. We are still hunting some of our perpetual trophies. If you have or have seen any, anywhere, (you know gathering dust on someone's sideboard) please let us know. It's our NT Championship & Champions trophies causing the most angst ... they are shaped like the NT map. Your help in locating would be most appreciated.

8. Don't look for a bandaid at the Stancombe's. Al has used them all up after coming off his bike twice in a week. Time for training wheels perhaps???

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you have had a recent conversation that contained the words, aero, PB, split, diarrhoea, rack, goggles, butt burn, black toe nail, or bento
... your friends and family tell you to put on some weight - you are looking a bit skinny!
... you are convinced that if you don't train for more than a day, your body will turn into a pile of mush and everyone in your age group will beat you

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
