Robyn's E News 5 July 2010

Hi All,

What an exciting weekend of triathlon here at home and around the globe. As well as our tri at Lake Alex, we had members taking part in the Open water and Fannie Bay swims and others in action at the Gold Coast Marathon.

Here at home, RD Nerida Godfrey set up an interesting course for participants in the event. Transition was on the grassed area and the run went through a well marked course a couple of times around the lake. Our thanks to Nerida for her efforts and also to all those who assisted on the day. We are indeed fortunate to have such fantastic volunteers to assist with our events. Much appreciated !

OTHER NEWS:

1. I can hear the stork warming up his wings.

2. Chad Anderson, Heath Porter and Jason Jones are displaying rising form as they head towards ITU Age Group Worlds in Budapest.

3. Jason had the slickest T2 yesterday with some onlookers thinking he must have worn his running shoes on the bike. Not so!

4. The new DTC tri gear is a real winner. The colours look awesome. Limited stock still available, see For Sale section.

5. From the sidelines it was interesting to note who had listened to the race brief yesterday and those who hadn't paid much attention. The result was some creative short cutting took place. Tip: listen up carefully to race briefs.

6. Great to see so many memberships being renewed so quickly. Also a big welcome to those who have joined us for the first time. A number of those who "tried" a race or two last season have now joined up. A couple of comebacks are happening this year too .... welcome back !! We recommend you sign up today to take full advantage of all triathlon has to offer. And don't forget, it is a condition of the Arafura Games Triathlon in May that you are a member.

7. Media Hound: Alan Culbertson made the Social Butterflies page of the Sunday Territorian yesterday.

8. Speaking of social butterflies, you may be interested in getting a table together and attending The Beach Ball on 4 Sept 2010. Further details www.darwinsurfclub.com.au

9. Our new season calendar will be available shortly. Thanks to our brilliant volunteers, you can tri, du or splash n dash on average every two weeks all year. Add to that all the training opportunities available and your membership certainly provides lots of value for the small dollars involved.

10. Results not yet available but word is Tim Green, Rob Brooks, Graeme Parsons and Adrienne Willing all won their respective age groups at the Fannie Bay swim.

11. Great to see Greg Kahl participating in our event yesterday. Greg was back in town for a few days and borrowed a mountain bike so he could have a hit out.

BLAST FROM THE PAST:

Although tri activities had been taking place prior, Triathlon NT and Darwin Triathlon Club had official joint beginnings back in 1989. The first elected officials were:

President: Tim Donkin (a club life member); Secretary: Peta McAuliffe; Treasurer: Rod McRea; Publicity: Keith Hansen

Membership fees in 1989 were $25 and it was $5 to race (so nothing much has changed).

The new club's first outing was a group bike ride from Nightcliff Pool to Lee Point and return followed by a dip at the pool.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
