Robyn's E News 9 Aug 2010

Hi All,

After another huge dry season weekend, all eyes are turning to Finlay's NT Long Course Triathlon to be held at Lake Bennett Resort (80km down the track) this Sunday morning.

Race Director Col Smith is busy working to bring participants a fantastic event in typical Territory style.

We are expecting a number of interstate competitors and I know you will make them very welcome if you bump into them out training this week.

RESULTS:

1. Ironman 70.3 Boulder, 1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21km run

NEXT EVENT:

Finlay's NT Long Course Triathlon
Sunday 15 August 2010
Lake Bennett Resort (80 km south of Darwin)
7am (Registration closes 6.30am, Race Brief 6.45am)
2km swim, 60km bike, 16km run

Online entry & event info at: www.triathlonnt.com.au

ENTRY CLOSES 5PM THIS WEDNESDAY 11 AUGUST, no late entries accepted.

1. It's a bit of a drive to Lake Bennett so factor in the extra travel time. Check your gear before starting out - it's way too far to dash back for a forgotten helmet, shoes or goggles.

2. If you aren't booked at the Resort you need to park outside (we are using part of the resort carpark as transition). Please consider your fellow competitors and ensure that you park well off the road.

3. On the way in, it will help if you pass the Resort gates before parking. Please consider the safety of fellow cyclists and runners prior to parking.

JUNIOR NEWS:

1. Junior Come and Try Day for 7-16 year olds is Sunday morning 22 August 2010 at Lake Alexander (more info www.triathlonnt.com.au juniors page or pick up a flyer from bike shops, pools etc)

OTHER NEWS:

1. If you are interested in assisting with the juniors events this season please email Jodie jbmcleod@bigpond.com for details of a planning get together happening this Thursday evening.

2. I have an entry form for Beach 2 Bridge. Please email if you would like a copy sent to you.

3. Great news .... the notorious rail crossing on Wishart Road will soon be upgraded. See attached for details of the proposed realignment due to be completed in November. Meanwhile, cyclists are asked to take care when negotiating the existing crossing.

4. All things cycling were discussed at a recent function with Harry Barber from Cycling Vic. After checking bike paths, lanes and development proposals Harry was very impressed with the current and future plans to cater for cyclists in and around Darwin & Palmerston. The number of participants in yesterday's Darwin to Mandorah ride demonstrates the continuing rise in cycling numbers.

5. But of course, we triathletes like to have three times the fun ! There is still time to make up a team with some of those cyclists and head on down to Lake Bennett this weekend for the Finlay's NT Long Course Triathlon.

6. To cater for those wanting to ride & run only at Lake Bennett, please enter online as an individual competitor and email eo@triathlonnt.com.au to be allocated a swimmer. Your result will then appear in the teams category.

7. Weekend form guide: Chad Anderson was first into Mandorah so we know he is in good shape for Finlay's Long Course; Rachel De Zoete continues to train long; Ali Croser was getting lot's of kms in her legs this weekend; Korgan Hucent's swimming has dramatically improved and Stu Fitch rode to Mandorah and then turned around and rode back !

8. Thanks to Finlay's Stonemasonry and Landscaping, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and Female individual competitors (provided they are a current TA member) are vying for prizemoney of $300, $150 & $50 respectively at Finlay's NT Long Course Triathlon.

BLAST FROM THE PAST:

In 2003 we were expecting a record number of competitors from NSW, ACT, Victoria, Qld and WA to join the Territories finest triathletes for the TIO NT Long Course Triathlon at Katherine's Nitmiluk Gorge. The event was part of the national qualifying series for 2004 Ironman Australia at Forster-Tuncurry NSW. Darwin hopefuls Tim Ellison and Carole McGregor were considered race favourites. Ellison's main rivals were expected to be Vic Scott Foreman (using event as pre Hawaii training) and Darwin's Roland Muench who competed in Hawaii in 2002. McGregor's main challengers were expected to be Darwin's Cristy Henderson and Lynda Rowan, with Victorians Jacqueline Fraser and Robyn Doyle likely to feature.

And the results in 2003 were: Male: 1 Tim Ellison 3.13.16; 2 Scott Foreman 3.14.50; 3 John Albrecht 3.20.00 Female: 1 Cristy Henderson 3.45.13; 2 Carole McGregor 3.49.59; 3 Julia Morris-Finlay 3.51.36

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
