Time to swim & run off the excesses of the holiday season ... see you Saturday

Hi All,

I've endured my idea of ultimate agony this morning ... a session on the windtrainer ... in my case, a session on the wind torturer. Cycling is meant to be done outside, right??? Overnight and morning rain made getting out impossible so I had to stop procrastinating and just get on with it. No surprises that I didn't enjoy it much!

A timely warning to all to be alert for potholes when you are out riding. They were getting bigger and bigger (including the one at the bottom of Lee Point) even before this latest heavy rain.

We have a number of new members coming to town, some of whom will be at the Aquathlon on Saturday. I know they will be made to feel very welcome by all.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Busselton Half Ironman is full and now has a waitlist of over 350 !

2. Alice Springs Tri Club secretary Loie Sharp was in action at the ACT Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships at the weekend (Black Mtn Peninsula in Lake Burley Griffen). Loie says it was a most enjoyable event, very pretty setting and friendly atmosphere. Triathlon has a big following in Canberra and there was a novice distance before the Sprint race, lots of folk, all ages and sizes out having a go.

The main event started at 8.45am, with Loie's wave starting at 9.15am, when it was getting pretty warm. She said the 750m non-wetsuit swim in the lake was good. The 20km bike leg was quite challenging being 4 loops of an undulating course on a sometimes roughish bitumen surface, quite technical with lots of gear changing and hard to get into a smooth rhythm. Then the 5km run was a 2.5km out and back loop alongside the lake, very pretty but some undulations and quite hot by then.

Loie said it was a reasonably demanding event, but do-able, as Sprint Distance isn't too huge. She was quite surprised to be the first home in her age group as her leg is pretty slow with the dodgy knees. She thought her swim/bike combination was competitive. (A very modest Loie, and we aren't surprised by her success at all).

3. There are 25 weeks until the Gold Coast Airport Marathon to be held on the first weekend in July 2010 (3-4 July). It will be the 32nd staging of this ‘Great Australian Marathon’ which is set to attract more than 25,000 runners from over 40 countries. There will be events for kids from five years up, right through to the full distance marathon. More info www.goldcoastmarathon.com.au

4. Ironman China has bike rental happening.

5. Ironman Singapore 70.3 is 85% full and expected to close soon.

6. Keep your eyes peeled for the new Australia Duathlon Series. Word is that there will be some interesting locations. Anyone interested in being race director for an event in Darwin??

7. Australia Day Fun run is on this Tuesday. Volunteers are required for marshalling. Please contact Ian on 0427 072 976 or ifu36401@bigpond.net.au if you are able to assist.

8. Given that Paul Bell has registered as SA, that leaves Matt Yates as the only NT entrant in Ironman Geelong 70.3 so far.

9. Paul Sheffield is an unlikely starter at Race 1 of the Aquathlon Series. A little bit of housework has undone months of training as Shef has strained his back doing some dusting (or was that lifting, maybe shifting) !

10. Interested in triathlon and/or running events in the South Pacific? Check out www.fit4travel.com.au

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
