TRIATHLON IN DARWIN:

The Annual General Meeting of Darwin Triathlon Club will take place Sunday 29 August 2010 at 7.15am
Venue: Casuarina Surf Club (prior to event)

With our Club AGM happening soon and calls for interested persons for the position of President and committee, we are being asked how things work. All Darwin Triathlon Club activities are carried out by members and friends of the club on a voluntary basis.

We have always had a great volunteer culture and it enables you to enjoy events at an extremely low cost. All we ask is that you join our club and be placed on the roster occasionally (or more if, like some people you are happy to do so) and that everyone assists with setting and/or packing up at events.

The Committee, race Directors, timekeeping, results, website, pointscore, technical officials, permits, equipment maintenance and EM News etc etc etc are all done on a voluntary basis.

FOR SALE / WANTED ETC:

1. Items for E News and requests for re runs by 8pm Sunday please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Heath Porter, Chad Anderson and Jason Jones are now less than six weeks out from ITU Age Group World Triathlon Championships in Budapest. Wow, that's come around fast.

2. Also means that Stu Fitch, Ali Croser and yours truly are less than ten weeks out from Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Ahhhhhh !

3. For those of you struggling to get up for the Club’s events on Sunday mornings, spare a thought for Miroslav Vlastil, of the Czech Republic. Miroslav is a mate of club member Stu Fitch, and at age 59 is attempting a world record for the number of Ironman’s in a year. So far he has completed 13 Ironman races, with podium placings in 8 of them, including a first in China. His times have ranged from 10:49 to 12:36. He has seven races left. Good luck Miroslav!

4. Following in the footsteps of cycling, the International Triathlon Union initiated a biological passport testing program last month, designed to catch blood doping.

5. Watch for more details on our club presentation night soon. Mark Friday 10 September 2010 in your calendar.

6. Registration for the Around the Bay, Darwin to Mandorah in a day ride Sunday 8 August, MUST be received 4pm sharp tomorrow, Thursday 5 August 2010. More info: www.darwin.cycling.org.au

7. Our annual awards include our infamous Dag of the Year trophy and Bike Crash award. As we are more than a month into the new season and there have been some rumours of daggy deeds and crashes, don't forget to forward details now for mention next year. All nominations to darwintriclub@bigpond.com will be filed to resurface again next year !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... about half the shirts you own have at least a dozen logos on the back of them
... you don’t find the word “Fartlek” in the least bit amusing
... you cried during the television coverage of the Hawaii Ironman

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

6. The course for the ITU Long Distance Worlds was by all reports, a toughie. A climb of 18% got a mention. Interestingly, no Aussie pros in the field.

BLAST FROM THE PAST:

The first ever triathlon championship event outside Darwin was the Sprint Championships held in Alice Springs, 2 February 1997.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you have to have completely separate meals from your friends because they are all on low-carb diets.
... your bicycle is in your living room.
... you know how far you cycled and ran last year, to one-tenth of a kilometre.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
