Hi All,

Have you started your Christmas go faster wish list yet? I'm motivated to ask Santa for a whole new package, not because I really need it but because I'd like to become a little more colour coordinated. The only way you can do that is to get the bike, shoes, helmet, trisuit etc all at once.

Over the top? Mmm, that's what I thought. Maybe I'll hang off for a bit.

But seriously, if you are looking for gift ideas and aren't yet a member or want to encourage someone to take up triathlon ... why not give the gift of club membership. At $110 until 30 June it's almost a stocking filler (you don't get many coffees or bottles of wine for that). Joining is an easy online process at https://www.securedvirtualnet.com/Sma/Triath/

Urgent .... we need a timekeeper for Friday evening. Please email if you can assist.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Following the report on our last event : Letter to the Editor (NT News 11 Nov 10) TIME FOR NT BROWN TROUT TOURNAMENT ...Is the Waterfront Slash and Dash (as reported in Tuesday NT News) inspired by the floaties frequently found in our public lagoons, oceans and water parks? Seems like a golden opportunity for NT Tourism to market the event in combination with the Lake Leanyer Pooh and Paddle or the Nightcliff Beach e-coli sprint, and in the process, create a unique Territory lifestyle adventure challenge. (Signed Felix, Leanyer).

2. Greg Kahl says although he wasn't fully prepared for the Augusta Anaconda Adventure Race, he did plan a better time than what he ended up with. Greg says "The run leg was great, but starting at the back of the pack and getting around the slower runners caused many people to take risky jumps and transfers over the rocks. Broken arms and legs happened, I missed timed a jump and ended up as a pin ball bouncing from rock to rock until I hit, and no pun intended, rock bottom. That took a lot out of me, but I kept going. Swim was good, and not having paddled since last summer, the 13km ocean paddle really drained me. Not to worry, 32km Mountain Bike leg was where I was planning to make back some time, unfortunately at the 15km mark, after passing so many people, on a fast downhill, at about 52km/hr (maxed out at 57km/hr) my rear tyre locked up. What caused this was a broken rear derailer, and my day was done. I attempted to run the remaining 17km but it was a losing battle. about 9-10km out from the end of the bike leg, finally a guy came past with a chain breaker, and thus enabling me to make a single speed bike (note to all mtb riders, better to have one speed then none at all, carry a chain breaker), so 16km/hr was now max on the bike. I had nothing left for the final run leg, and finished in a disappointing time 7 hours 8 mins. I was looking at under 6 hours, so guess what is on the cards for next year???".

3. David Janmaat was also in action at the Augusta Anaconda.

4. For those adventure race enthusiasts out there a call has gone out regarding an inaugural Adventure Race in Dili. Details are a little sketchy but it will be held on Sunday 12th December. Will be a 12 hour race (from 6am to 6pm) and will comprise of running, walking, paddling and riding. They are looking to have 3 mixed teams of 4 competitors from Darwin. Apparently Airnorth will supply free flights (only have to pay the taxes (about $150) for the 12 competitors. Competitors will have to organize food and accommodation (Timor Lodge is about $25 per night) whilst in Dili. There is a flight on the Saturday and then competitors could go home Monday (or stay for a while and enjoy the scenery and diving etc).
Entry into the race will be free, and it won’t be too hard core! – just fun. They need expressions of interest ASAP so as to arrange flights. If anyone is interested please email Dave at infoadventureracetl@gmail.com for further information.

5. For those with a Tassie connection ... Devonport Triathlon (Tas) date has been changed to Saturday 15 January 2011.

6. The development squad juniors who participated in the Qld Junior Tour and competed at the Qld All Schools Triathlon gained a wealth of experience. Well done to all. Tour photos are now up on Flickr page.

7. Interested persons are invited to Bicycle NT's AGM , which will be held on Sunday 5th December 2010 at 10 am, at Jane Aagaard's Electoral Office in Nightcliff (where the market is held). Further info: www.bicyclent.org.au

8. There are some spiffy new bikes making debut (or is that de-butt) appearances. I thought it was still a few weeks until Christmas???

9. Speaking of Christmas, if you are after go faster gear to have under your tree, now would be the time to head into the bike shop. Avoid disappointment .... don't leave your shopping until the last minute.

10. Kate Murphy got amongst the open women at Shepparton yesterday. Kate was 7th overall and won her age group.

11. Heading to NSW to race? Note Callala and Bateman's Bay triathlons have switched dates (Bateman's Bay clashed with a circus).

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you are tempted to do your long rides in togs so you don't end up with dodgy tan lines
... your child comes home after doing well at the school cross country and tells you he took it out in a nice pace that he could hold.....& that everyone else died
... you clean your bike more often than your car

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
