OTHER NEWS:

1. DTC dominated the solo competitors at the Katherine Ultra Challenge (see their results above) and we were very well represented in the team categories including Dale Berk in the first across the line team, Saharan Kayakers.

2. Stef Puszka and Kate Robertson are hardy souls .. they did the KUC 3.2km swim for their teams without wetsuits.

3. There were two Gold medal times in the individuals at the Ultra, winner Derek Cross and evergreen Pete Brady. While this was Derek's first Ultra, veteran Pete was doing his 9th and they posted their gold medal times on what is acknowledged as the toughest course ever.

4. Pete was carrying an Achilles injury and hadn't run since the Arafura Half Marathon but still posted one of the fastest xcountry times. Pete is definitely Territory tough !!

5. Also among our members competing in KUC teams were Brian Gallagher, Tony Cox, Damien O'Brien, Lachlan Kelsall, Phil Brownscombe, Sara Martin, Ron Griep, Moira Wigley, Alex Moratis, Joe Mettam, Erin Mettam, Matt Redmond and Tim Ellison.

6. Speaking of teams, the triathletes got pipped by the runners at the BeepTest Challenge. Our team of Dave Croser, John Thyne, Phil Lewis, Lee Wilson, Mitch Ward, Jax Ward, Bella Hatty, Louise Jettner, Shaye Hatty, Joseph White and Karen Lewis were by far the fittest though and I hear there may have been some grounds for a protest given an experienced triathlete defected to the runners side !

7. Carole McGregor is back in Darwin on hols & popped into Nightcliff swim squad to catch up with familiar faces. Carole will be competing at IM NZ next year.

8. NT Swimming advise new afternoon registration and start times for Meet #2 of the Gatorade Open Water Series on Saturday 2 July.
Registrations open 3.10pm; Registrations close 3.40pm; Race Briefing 3.45pm' Race Start 4.00pm. Further information: www.nt.swimming.org.au

9. Good luck to Ali Fitch & Stu Fitch who are competing in Idaho this weekend.

10. Heard Chad Anderson is injured & not able to run at the moment but is using the time to do a lot of swimming. We wish him a speedy recovery.

11. Applications are closing soon for the Level 1 Coaching Course to be conducted 16 & 17 July 2011. Further information & online registration at www.triathlonnt.com.au

12. I envy those lucky people heading for Bali, it's the first time I've missed the event and it sounds like it will be another special experience this year. Stay safe over there, the roads are very busy.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you contemplate how to pee on the bike when riding, and you are a girl.
... you have no problem loaning body glide to a triathlete you don’t even know
... you realize flatulence is pretty funny in a wetsuit and warm on cold swim days

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Photo: Nightcliff Pool triathlon about to get underway, brrr

Hi All,

It was hilarious to see competitors and spectators alike rugged up against the cold at Sunday's event at Nightcliff Pool.

There was definitely some reluctance to get into the water, even to "warm" up ! The weather may have been on the chilly side but the competition was hot once the race was underway !

There was also a very social side to the race with a large crowd of spectators on hand to encourage those participants hardy enough to brave the chill. The coffee man in the carpark enjoyed the extra early patronage.

A huge thank you to RD Phill Hatty and all the volunteers who assisted with this event. Without our fantastic volunteers our events couldn't go ahead.

On that, our new calendar will soon be circulated and volunteers for Race Directors, Timekeepers, Registration, & Fruit/Ice will be called for. All members are asked to volunteer at least once a year to carry out one of those positions. Any vacant slots, after the call for volunteers, we fill with member names not yet appearing so we encourage you to choose an event that suits you.

We recognise that RD's and those on timekeeping can't participate so they are awarded maximum points for the pointscore. Registration and fruit/ice volunteers are still able to compete.

While we realise there are always circumstances which prevent people from carrying out a roster duty, we do request that you find someone to replace you and notify the RD for that event

It's a given that all members assist with setup and packup on race day.

OTHER NEWS:

1. We recently farewelled Vincent Gilly & family who have relocated to Brisbane. It was a very high pleasure to be with you all and I won’t forget all these fantastic moments spent with the Triathlon community."

2. Fannie Bay Swim Classic (1.2kms or 2.1kms) takes place this Sunday at midday. Register online at www.lifesavingnt.com.au by Friday.

3. Ben Sanders' time in the Cairns Half was 5.12.51 You will remember Ben dropped off the results for some reason. Definitely something for him to put in the event feedback request. Well done Ben !

4. Congratulations to Lauren Stephenson and Kyle Gear on the birth of their baby girl, Bella. A sweet new little tri baby.

5. I believe the Varga family have also had a visit from the stork recently as well. Congrats.
6. A number of members head to Bali this week for the Bali International Triathlon. Among them are some who will be tackling the sprint distance race including two girls whose first race ever was the Fernwood All Girls Tri last year, Joy Glass & Malinda Leach. I hear Joy is so keen she has been getting up at 4am to do her run training while her three young kids are asleep and husband is home. Malinda has also convinced husband Craig to join her at club events and in the Bali race. He's a hard core rugby player on Saturdays & has been known to dash off to footie training on Sunday arvo after tri-ing in the morning. Mal & Craig also juggle a young family. Good luck in Bali !

7. Pro Michelle Mitchell will be out to make it three wins in a row at the Bali International Triathlon (Olympic Distance). Good luck Michelle.

8. Did you get into Mooloolaba or IM Oz? Would be interesting to know who got in.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... your body clock is set at 5am
... you are dreaming of a set of race wheels
... you are thinking of trying to qualify for OD Worlds in Auckland next year

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
