Robyn's E News 3 December 2012

Hi All,

We were again very lucky with the weather on Friday evening.  The storms rolled past Lake Alex and we got our splash n dash underway to some rumbling and a distant lightning strike.

200/2 x 3 proved to be a cerebral and well as physical workout and was thoroughly enjoyed, as were the very welcome post race refreshments.

Our thanks to Race Director Rob Brooks for his time & effort to set up our event.  To keep us on our toes Rob had three different run courses for competitors to negotiate!  Thanks also to Sue Parora who was shadowing Rob & at the same time, learning the art of race set up.

Our sincere thanks also go to our many roster volunteers and those who helped out on the evening.  We extend a big thank you to Surf Lifesaving NT volunteers who provided water safety on Friday evening. Their presence at our events is reassuring and greatly appreciated.

5.  Well done new member Graham Havens!  Always exciting to see people achieve more than they thought possible.

6.  Time to start looking around for your Christmas accessories to wear at our Christmas Splash N Dash.

7.  Christmas Splash N Dash is a whole of club event.  We have our event, the juniors participate over their distances and then we have a combined jnr/senior relay.  Wonderful way to end the year.

8.  Wow a quick check of entry lists shows those doing IM Cairns or Cairns 70.3 are going to have a lot of support from within.

9.  Tony Burns is back in Oz safely after his Egyptian adventures.

10. It’s getting busy on our roads with everyone rushing around prior to Christmas and with the wet weather around it pays to be little more cautious. Stay safe out there.

Cheers,

2.  A number of our members are heading to Thailand for Ironman 70.3 Phuket.  They include Lucy Thompson, Kylie Gaffel, Grant Preddy, Ben Sanders and Glen Scholz. Good luck!

3.  Kylie Sheffield has now officially made her big 'comeback' after three years.  Kylie participated in a novice event in Canberra yesterday and says she definitely picked the right distance. Nothing has changed – still hates the bike and loves the run. She even wore her DTC trisuit which apparently is starting to look a bit shabby but still holds everything in and up!

4.  Those heading west this week for IM Western Australia include Ali Croser, Dave Croser and Leigh Milne. Wishing them calm waters, tail winds and cloud cover.

5.  Lots of members were spotted in the Santa crowd at Variety Santa Run yesterday.

6.  General entry for IM 70.3 Cairns opens tomorrow 10.30am our time.  The TA member allocation sold out extra fast last week.

7.  Racing away or know someone who is?  We would love to get a heads up on events our members are attending.  Makes results searching so much easier.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you find yourself yelling at cars to “hold your line”
… you appreciate your sunglasses more because they allow you to anonymously observe the wonders of tight fitting lycra over race tuned triathlete bodies
… you appreciate Gu because not only can you eat it, it also provides added hand stickiness that makes for better bike handling through improved handlebar grip

Hi All,

The Waterfront precinct again proved to be an ideal location for our first aquathlon format event for the season.  With storms threatening around us but coming to nothing, we got underway with lots of supporters on hand to encourage our competitors.

Race directing was a collaborative effort. Our thanks to Bertram Birk who got the ball rolling and to David McLeod who took over race day duties. A huge thank you also to Belinda Birk who was again everywhere and ensured that our members and sponsors were well looked after at the Waterfront.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you find yourself promoting tri training principles to your running mates, when all they're really concerned with is running off the extra lunch they had
… you'd rather someone steal your car than your bike
… you get more phone calls at 5 am than at 5 pm.

Safe training,
Cheers,

E News 5 November 2012

Hi All,

We had perfect conditions for our Enduro event at Lake Alexander yesterday and the action got underway on time and was fast and furious.

Our thanks go to our Race Director Scott Bevis who did a great job organising this event and giving athletes a thorough mental and physical workout.

Scott was supported by a crew of fantastic volunteers and we take this opportunity to thank them all.  Setting up, packing away, etc always requires extra hands so we really appreciate those on roster and those who are willing to just get in and help get it done. Thanks to all!

OTHER NEWS:

1.  Triathlon Australia has a new president, David Ferrier

2.  Good things were heard about the new improved speed bumps at Lake Alexander.

3.  Steve Goat was sporting bandaged bits after coming down at a roundabout in the wet weather at the weekend.

4.  It was interesting to see who opted for removing pedals & wearing runners for the ride yesterday (theory being time saving).  It was also interesting that both male & female winners opted for not changing from their normal set up.  Of the top 6 guys, only two went with the running shoe option.

5.  On thrills & spills, there was a lot of bark lost at Noosa Tri where many athletes, including the pros, found it hard to stay upright on wet roads.

6.  Great to see the glow of achievement from the girls in Team Libby Culgan / Raylee Parker / Anna Newlove as they finished at Lake Alex yesterday.  Well done girls!

7.  You could just tell that the 5km ride wasn’t long enough for Adam Hartley.

8.  Fresh from their hit outs at ITU World Championships in Auckland, Ron Griep and Justin Tranter were inspired competitors.

9.  Joseph White demonstrated yesterday he is in good shape for Qld All Schools Triathlon this coming weekend.  He and Bella Hatty will be in action.  Wish them both luck if you see them during the week.

10.  How good are our terrific trio Rob Weatherald, Brian Gallagher & Pete Brady?  The boys are always at the pointy end of the field giving 100%

11.  PBs at Noosa Triathlon yesterday for Leigh Milne, Kylie Gaffel and Glen Scholz.  Congrats to Naomi Milne on her first OD distance finish.

12.  The men’s winner at Ironman Florida posted a 4.04.39 180km bike split.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

…  one of your life's goals is a race bib that says "Anything is Possible"
…  your “real” birthday doesn’t count – you “age up” on 1 January/1 July
…  some of the best conversations you have are during long runs and rides, mainly when you're going solo

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
