E News 27 August 2012

Hi All,

Finlay's NT Long Course Triathlon at Lake Bennett Resort yesterday attracted a quality field and they, together with their friends and supporters, made the atmosphere friendly, challenging and competitive. Our interstate visitors were again blown away by how well we do things and the encouragement they received.

So many people were involved in making this event happen that it would be impossible to name them all, however we send a huge thank you to our event sponsor, Finlay's Stonemasonry and Landscaping Supplies.  Finlay’s provide our very welcome prize money which assists our local athletes and also attracts interstate competitors.

The event tshirts were again sponsored by Gwelo and were given the thumbs up.  Thank you Gwelo.

RD Jason Jones was on the job and was everywhere ensuring athletes were well catered for.

Jason's contribution was huge and we sincerely thank him on behalf of all the competitors.

We are indebted to those wonderful volunteers who travelled down to Lake Bennett just to help out.  They covered technical, water safety, timing, aid stations, turnaround points, St John Ambulance and a zillion other things that all contributed to making our event so successful.

On behalf of all Finlay's Long Course competitors: "Thank you volunteers, we really appreciated you giving up your time so we could compete."

OTHER NEWS:

1.  We wish Nerida Godfrey a speedy recovery.  She tangled with a pig during the Gran Fondo and sustained a fractured cheek bone which required surgery, as well as other injuries. We missed Nerida in the TO team at Lake Bennett yesterday.

2. Our technical team yesterday included Adele Butler who is recovering from a recent stint in hospital herself.  Our thanks to Adele and the technical team for insuring we had a safe and fair event.  It’s a long time in the sun.

3.  Also in the sun and on their feet for five hours were our timing team of Claire Labowitch and Moira Wigley.  Thanks girls, great job.

4.  How good were the guys on the far run turnaround?  Although a bit lippy at times, they were a very welcome sight for competitors.

5.  The GPS equipped say the temp got to 40+ out there yesterday.

6.  It was a little cooler for the guys on water safety.  Thanks to Brian Gallagher for again heading up the water safety team.  Your presence reassured many during the swim.

7.  Michelle Gailey should make it to Kona this year courtesy of a 6th pro place at Ironman Louisville earlier this morning.  Michelle did IM New York, followed that with a 70.3 last weekend, then tackled IM Louisville today in an effort to make it to Hawaii this year.

8.  John Arrigo, who also did IM NY a fortnight ago, flew back into Darwin just in time to drive down and compete at Lake Bennett.

9.  We have Fernwood All Girls Tri coming up next Sunday.  Even with extra places, it’s a sell out!

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
