Hi All,

Isn’t it wonderful to be anticipating a lovely long Easter break (that’s those of you not working or on call)? Are you already stockpiling hot cross buns and Easter eggs in anticipation?

With that extra time available, those wanting to make the Triathlon Australia Age Group Team for ITU Sprint Distance World Triathlon Championships in Auckland (18-22 October) can be busy scanning the final pointscore following the edition of the points from the Ray White Darwin NT Sprint Distance Triathlon results.

Now here is the interesting part … many of our members would be eligible to make the team. If you wish to know where you stand points wise check here. FYI: If you age up at 1 July, your points count in that age category.

If your heart fluttered a little at the prospect of the possibility of wearing green and gold and/or having a trisuit with your name & country on it, check the selection policy (carefully) here.

OTHER NEWS:

1. The slushy machine destined for our race on Sunday didn’t quite make it. Ray White Darwin office was awash after the machine was accidently dropped.

2. Some photos from the weekend are already up on our Facebook page. Don’t forget to LIKE us while you are there ! (Also more to come Flickr).

3. Junior members Bella Hatty, Hamish Wiltshire, Joseph White and Louise Jettner are part of the NT Team in action today at the School Sport Triathlon Championships (Busselton, WA). Good luck to all.

4. The Lake Bennett course will be inspected tomorrow and discussions held with Resort management. Depending on outcomes, a decision will be made on whether or not we can increase our field size for the Kerran Mudgway event. Thank you for understanding that, at all times, athlete safety is our highest priority.

5. Enjoy your Easter break whatever you may be doing or where ever you may be heading. Some of you will be taking the opportunity to kick back and relax while others will be putting in solid training blocks. Please take care if you are out there on the roads (driving or riding).

6. Pools are closed on Good Friday. Sat, Sun & Monday opening times are Public Holiday hours (10am – 7.30pm).

7. Katherine Ultra Challenge online registration is now open here. Date for KUC has been put back to 5 August 2012 so that 100kms can all be done in one day again. Given the trend for events to sell out quickly I’d suggest this is another that you will need to enter sooner rather than later. More KUC info here.

8. Our Finlay’s NT Long Course Triathlon (2km swim, 60km bike, 16km run) date is 26 August 2012 (Lake Bennett).

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you appreciate your sunglasses more because they allow you to anonymously observe the wonders of tight fitting lycra over race tuned triathlete bodies
… you feel like you had a day off because all you did was swim two laps of Lake Alex
… you tried to explain that the water in Darwin feels chilly when it gets to 27 degrees and got laughed at

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Robyn's E News 2 April 2012

Hi All,

Take a bow Darwin Triathlon Club! What an absolutely fantastic event we conducted yesterday.

A huge thank you to Korgan of Ray White Darwin who again sponsored the NT Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships and had the Ray White team, as well as family, on hand to assist us all.

Big thanks to President Phill Hatty (the man on the mic) who was our RD, Bin Birk the lady behind the scenes who bought it all together, the fantastic volunteers out along the bike course, NT Police for manning the lights, brilliant water safety team from NT Surf Life Saving, our awesome timekeeping teams, the TOs, St John Ambulance, Marg & Bob on the BBQ, the Coffee Angels who donated 10% of sales to the junior team, the juniors who helped out at the water station (weren’t they a welcome sight) and the zillion other people who helped out.

And it didn’t finish at Lake Alex, as we then had the marvellous Al Stancombe get to work. Al gave up his Sunday arvo to get the results out and posted in record time. Thanks Al !

OTHER NEWS:

1. Spotted at yesterday’s event – Justin Tranter doing a very quick puncture repair but still finishing strongly. Not so lucky - the interstater whose seat slipped and couldn’t be fixed - he rode most of the way standing up.

2. Great job done by the juniors on the run water station yesterday. A number were part of the NT Team heading off to Busselton this week.

3. Lance Armstrong managed 7th at IM 70.3 Texas in only his second 70.3. Think the last part of the run got a little hard. Yay, he is human after all !

4. Our Lake Bennett race is currently a sell out. Organising committee will be endeavouring to get as many of those waitlisted in and we thank you for your patience. No places can be offered until after the course is inspected again and risk assessments reviewed.

5. If you have already entered Lake Bennett and now find you aren’t competing, please let us know here so your spot can be given to someone else.

6. It was great to have so many interstaters competing yesterday. We had all states and territories represented. Their feedback was all positive. Many were very impressed with our club uniform and we had lots of requests to buy club shirts.

7. Also good to see the number of Katherine triathletes making the trip up to compete.

8. It’s been a rather busy couple of weeks in the lead up to yesterday’s event & now we get to do it all again for Lake Bennett in a fortnight.

9. If you haven’t yet been to Lake Bennett, it’s 80km down the track and makes a nice change from Darwin life.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ….

… a sprint distance event confirms your love of ironman
… you love going flat strap on the bike and not having to worry about the Fannie Bay lights
… you thanked all the volunteers as you rode past on your last lap

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
