YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you checked the Lake B results and are planning a PB for 2013
… you failed high school chemistry but you could teach a course on lactic acid
… there is a group of people in your life about whom you are more likely to know how fast they can swim a 100 metres than their surnames or occupations

Safe training,
Cheers,

Robyn's E News 16 April 2012

Hi All,

What a weekend ! Once again we can be extremely proud of our Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships at Lake Bennett.

Judging by the feedback on Saturday and by email since, our interstate visitors were also very impressed by the location, the atmosphere, the organisation and the very friendly welcome they encountered.

Particular thanks go to the trio of Phill Hatty, Jason Jones & Dave McLeod. Many of you would be oblivious to work done by these guys in the lead up to the race, to the hard physical yakka they put in prior to and on race day, and their willingness to go the extra mile to make sure you all had a great day racing.

I’m sure you were all very grateful for the time and effort Tony Cox put to the task of getting the road repairs done in time for our event, thanks Tony.

Also impressive was the energy and enthusiasm of our juniors to assist. Later arrivals were probably unaware of the assistance given by the Hatty and Jones youngsters to clean up transition prior to & after, and set up the course. They also have aid station running down pat. Watch this space, they could be the NT version of USM in years to come !

Thanks to Cate Killiner Real Estate for sponsoring the post race refreshments for this event ~ the hungry hordes certainly appreciated the spread !

We have so many people to acknowledge including our water safety crew, our timing team, our turnaround marshalls, our technical team, St John Ambulance crew from Batchelor, aid station volunteers and all those who just pitched in to help on the day. On behalf of organisers and competitors ….

THANK YOU, WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR WILLINGNESS TO HELP MAKE OUR EVENT SUCH A SUCCESS !

OTHER NEWS:

1. Loved it that our members took 1,2 & 3 overall in both male and female categories at Lake Bennett.

2. We also had the fastest swim Tim Green, fastest bike Brett Verity, fastest run Claire Johnson.

3. Claire was absolutely on fire and came in 5th. But for a tumble at the mount line which left her a little beat up and battered and minus one aerobar arm, she may have placed higher!

4. Brett Verity also won our very first Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships which were held at Lake Alexander in 2002.

5. It was noticeable that some of our competitors need to revisit Race Competition Rules (RCR) after seeing some fundamental rule violations at the weekend. Check out full RCR here or basic rules to remember which are attached.

6. Macca was highest placed Aussie at the ITU World Triathlon Series event in Sydney.

7. It’s going to be a change of pace at our next event. Our teams event is a very social affair, the distance and format means it’s doable by all our members and we would like to encourage you to start getting your teams and themes sorted now.

As a memory jogger, here’s a pic from a previous teams event ….

8. Applications for TA Age Group teams for ITU Sprint and Olympic Distance teams close today here. If you wish to know more about the teams check FAQ.

Robyn's E News 11 April 2012

Hi All,

A busy behind the scenes week for volunteers in the lead up to our Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships at Lake Bennett, so E News is short and sweet today.

If you haven’t done this event before, we hope you are ready for a real Territory triathlon experience. Lake Bennett is a must do race on our calendar and the location and late afternoon start time ensures we will have a very different tri experience to that of our usual events.

It’s our big club event of the year and will be great to see you all there. We will also be joined by a number of interstate athletes many seeking to earn selection points towards their bid to make the TA Age Group team for ITU Olympic Distance World Championships in Auckland in October. Let’s give them our warmest Darwin Tri Club welcome!

Please note we are using the carpark at the Resort as transition. If you aren’t booked at the Resort for the night, you will need to park outside. On the way in, it will help if you drive past the Resort gates before parking. We ask that you consider the safety of competitors prior to parking and make sure you are well off the road.

JUNIOR REPORT:

Lee Wilson reports on the NT School Sport Triathlon Team:

“Congratulations to all our juniors for successfully completing the School Sport National Triathlon Champs last week. From all reports they had a great week away and once again demonstrated exceptional maturity, teamwork and camaraderie to each other and all other athletes. Our team was up against the best juniors in the country and we are very proud of their efforts and attitude towards the race. It has been a pleasure to see the team develop over the past 2 years and last week capped off a fantastic 2011/12 season so well done all. I would also like to express my thanks to Rowan for all the work she put into the school sport campaign. There was a lot of work done behind the scenes to make this possible for our juniors and without Rowan’s support this wouldn’t have happened. She also did an awesome job on her own last week looking after the team and kept us all informed of what was happening during the event.”

Results:
Juniors 400/12/3: Jasper (Alice Springs) 49:35; Bella Hatty 48:24
Intermediate 600/16/4: Joseph White 57:37; Hamish Wiltshire 1:01; Louise Jettner 1:04

OTHER NEWS:

1. Announced yesterday: The Cairns 2.80.20 has been changed to Ironman 70.3 Cairns. The local reactions ranged from “Yay, we don’t have to swim as far” to “Can I make 90km on the bike?”.

2. Monica Stewart is also competing at the Sydney Triathlon this weekend along with Haydn Whitty and Trevor Moses. Good luck !

3. Kathy McKay is finding lots of hills to train on, she’s going to be strong on the bike for Cairns.

4. Damian Brown is winging his way to Paris for the Paris Marathon.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you don’t think it’s odd to have a bike in the bedroom
… your bike has had an overhaul in preparation for the weekend
… you spend more time cleaning your bike than your car

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
