Hi All,
It will be
a busy behind the scenes week for volunteers in the lead up to our Kerran
Mudgway Memorial Club Championships at Lake Bennett on Saturday afternoon.
If you
haven’t done this event before, we hope you are ready for a real Territory
triathlon experience. Lake Bennett is a must do race on our calendar and
the location and late afternoon start time ensures we will have a very
different swim, bike, run experience to that of our usual events.
It’s our
big club event of the year and will be great to see you all there. With
the Championship distance and a short option on offer there is something for
everyone. Teams are welcome over both distances.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We
need some extra volunteers for this event including
1. Someone for bike turnaround – do this with a friend and it can be
quite social – turn up the radio and give some encouragement to all the
athletes as they pass; 2. People for far drink station and 3.
Water safety. If you can help out on Saturday please email here.

Notes:
1.
Ensure you are well hydrated prior to this event.
2.
Bring your own water … it is not recommended that you drink the local bore
water.
3.
There is a small shop at the Resort selling drinks/icecream etc so you may wish
to consider bringing snacks.
4.
Toilet facilities are located on the pool deck area at the rear of the Resort
reception. Please consider guests if you make use of Resort facilities.
5. Please
note we are using the carpark at the Resort as transition. If you aren’t
booked at the Resort for the night, you will need to park outside. On the way
in, it will help if you drive past the Resort
gates before parking. We ask that you consider
the safety of competitors prior to parking and make sure you are well off the
road.
6.
Triathlon Australia Race Competition Rules apply including no drafting.
Drafting is cheating. Attached is a copy of the very basic rules of
triathlon. Please ensure you read prior to this event.
7.
Don’t forget to slip, slop, slap.

OTHER NEWS:
1.
DTC juniors Bella & Jack Hatty, Bryn Pickering, Noah Marcroft, Hamish
Wiltshire, Joseph White, Carter Brearley and Robert Pedersen-McLaren all
participated in the Triathlon NT Junior Development Camp last week. They
were joined by a contingent from Alice Springs and had three days of
instruction from Triathlon NT Junior Athlete Development head Tim Ellison.
2. We
had lots of positive feedback following Ray White Darwin NT Sprint Distance
Triathlon including this message from Tony:
“I thought
my mate Steve was mad by dragging me all the way to Darwin for a race
especially 2 weeks after I had just done Melb IM, but seriously glad he did.
Your club
epitomizes why I took the sport up years ago, a brilliant group of friendly
people, selflessly missing a race to organize, marshal etc as well. My goody
bag was better than Melb that cost me 850 bucks and all it had was a 2010
cycling mag in it. Wish I lived closer as I’d have my wife and kids doing
little races every weekend with your club.”
3.
Those heading for Ironman Australia & IM 70.3 Busselton put in some solid
training sessions again over the weekend. Not long to go now for them.
4. We
all know how crazy busy we get during the dry season so I would encourage you
all to add our key triathlon dates to your diary or calendar on the
fridge. We have the club champs this weekend at Lake Bennett, the NT Olympic Distance on Saturday 11 May 2013, the club Presentation
Night Dinner on Saturday 10 August 2013 and then it’s straight into Finlay’s NT Long Course Triathlon on 25 August 2013.
5. No
names, but I hear a certain tri couple have no fewer than 80 water bottles
between them, most never used.
6.
The stork was very busy this past week and it delivered a pair of second
sons. Congratulations to Ben & Melissa Sanders who welcomed Curtis on
Wednesday. Stork then backed up with a visit to Mike & Adrienne Varga
with baby James. All well.
