MEMBER FEEDBACK:

The following is some feedback from fellow club members:

1. From Jo, a past Treasurer and long term member who recently moved from Darwin:

I wanted to thank all past and current members of the Darwin Triathlon Club for making it a fantastic group to be a part of. I especially wanted to thank all those people who gave me advice, coaching, support, and friendship. Goodbye to you all. Safe and happy racing.

2. From Danealle, a new member:

As a new member, can I take this opportunity to thank the club so much. I have competed in the past 3 events and have not only had a really enjoyable time but am so impressed with the professional way in which the races are run, in a manner that is so approachable and friendly. As a new mum only recently back to exercise I have also been so impressed with the number of other new mums with bubs in tow, also getting out and having a go. It is very motivational. I also really enjoy your news e mails.

3. From Paul, who has recently moved to NSW:

Thank you for the fantastic assistance and dedication that you have provided and have made my introduction to triathlons a very pleasant experience (although I don't feel that at the end of each race :o) The organisation and running of the club is second to none and I will miss the fortnightly races.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Sophie Hawken is back racing and has had three wins in regional Victorian triathlons this month. Way to go Sophie.

2. Team Timex member Stu Fitch is back from USA where he attended the annual Team Timex camp (with temperatures in the minus at times, a real change from Darwin conditions).

3. Ironman 70.3 Singapore entry is still open.

4. Limited entries remain for individual entry to Mooloolaba Triathlon. Click here for more details.

5. New Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote has been announced. Kicks off 10 November 2012 at Club La Santa, Canary Islands. Might be enough to bring Paul Drossou out of retirement !

6. Jo Duncan remembers a time (perhaps 14 years ago) that Col & Trish Smith rescued her son when he was lost on a run in East Point. She also remembers another time that Tony Cox dived in to assist the swimmer who was in a team with her kids. She had been accidently kicked in the head during the swim & was very upset. Jo says thanks again !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… new running shoes get you out there with added enthusiasm
… you check the progress of the new bike path at Leanyer (often)
… can’t get enough to drink

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Robyn's E News 20 February 2012

Hi All,

Our mountain bike triathlon went ahead, after being a little doubtful mid week due to a report of a croc sighting at Lake Alex, and the subsequent closure of the lake for a couple of days.

Our members obviously take that sort of news as pretty normal as we had a fantastic turnout for the event on Saturday evening.

Race Director Kyle Gear, along with a band of wonderful volunteers, got the event underway and as always it was survival of the fittest ! We saw some hair raising riding from some and we saw some very tentative pedalling from others. We thank Kyle and all those who helped out for their efforts to bring us this event, much appreciated by all.

OTHER NEWS:

1. We would like to thank SolRX Sunscreen for their support of our event at the weekend. Winners of the prize packs were Kylie Gaffel, Billy Lynch, John Thyne and Brett Verity and club now has pump packs of sunscreen which will be part of the race box and will give you the opportunity to try this recommended product at our upcoming events. SolRX Sunscreen can be ordered online here.

2. The news that Jac Crofton was injured on a training ride at the weekend and will miss IM New Zealand (3 Mar) comes as a real shock to members. Jac has been training the house down and was in super form. We wish her a very speedy recovery and know she will bounce back from this devastating setback.

3. Speaking of injuries, there were a few at the weekend. Naomi Milne, Ron Griep, Karen Wilson and Craig Leach are among those also reaching for the ice packs.

4. Beginner training sessions for those new to triathlon continue this week. Please contact John Thyne on 0423 797 401 for further details. This is a great introduction if you are new to the sport or have a friend who is interested in attending.

5. Former club treasurer Jo Duncan has recently moved from Darwin. Jo has been a regular participant at our events for many years and a great supporter of our club. We wish Jo all the best & hope she will coincide any future visits back here with one of our events.

6. Following some email difficulties, very slow loading and finding myself cursing a screen, I’m on the hunt for a new computer. Hopefully Wednesday’s E News will go out as usual, but heads up that I may be mid changeover then and it could be later in the week.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN…

… you aren’t surprised anymore when Athlete Trackers freeze mid race
… you think being colour coordinated makes you go faster
… your interstate tri friends cannot believe pool temperatures can get that high

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
