Robyn's E News 5 Jan 09

Hi All,

Here's hoping that you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year where ever you may have spent it. The New Year brings another set of triathlon goals for most of us and that usually starts with the promise to do all the club events. We kick the year off this weekend with Race 1 of the Aquathlon Series, just a nice little 300m swim followed by a 3km gallop....hope to see you all there.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Our aquathlon starts at 6pm Saturday. Don't be like one of our members who turned up at 5.30am Sunday for the Xmas Splash n Dash!

2. Now that's probably a Dag of the Year nomination, I'll make a note! We are at the half way point of the year - if you know of a daggy deed (or deeds) done by a member, write them down and send them to darwintriclub@bigpond.com today. Trust me, come nomination time you won't remember half of them. All nominations will be confidential.

3. Sophie Hawken is leaving the heat and humidity of Darwin. She and Kim are moving to Hobart and head out tomorrow. But will she be able to handle the winter weather is the question? We are taking bets that Soph comes back up during the dry to escape the Tasmanian winter chill. We wish them both all the best in the future.

4. Fantastic news ... It has been announced that Michellie Jones will be racing IM Australia this year.

5. Confirmation of dates for ITU World Duathlon Championships - 26-27 September 09 North Carolina, USA.

6. On recent rides both Mick Outhred and David Croser have been seen doing unscheduled ground inspections. Not much damage except to ego.

7. John Thyne often does the Bridport Triathlon. I'm wondering if the 15 degree water temp. was the reason he flew out before the race this year?

8. If you are riding out near Finlays (near the highway) beware of the dog! It may look overweight and old but it still has a turn of speed. Ask Rob Brooks.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN....

... eating everything in sight is natural to you
... you consider a 10km run a good cure for a hangover
... you have chafing in strange places

Safe training,
Cheers
Robyn
