Photo: Club treasurer Jane Marie came prepared for all weather conditions
Hi All,
2011 kicked off in ideal conditions at the Nightcliff Pool on Saturday evening. A huge thank you to Race Director Vicki Woodrow and all those who assisted with the event, your efforts are much appreciated.
DTC committee sent out word late last week that the event would be the Club's fundraising effort for the Queensland flood appeal. In true NT spirit those racing and many of our supporters and spectators gave generously to the appeal. Darwin Triathlon Club then matched donations with the result that $1,825.00 will be handed over this week. Great effort by all and thank you for supporting this initiative.

OTHER NEWS:
1. A one hour documentary of Ironman Western Australia 2010 will air nationally on OneHD 7.30pm Wed 19 Jan 2011.
2. Weather conditions have meant changed formats for many races around the world. The Devonport Triathlon went to duathlon format due to flooding in Tassie and over in Pucon, the 70.3 was also changed due to intense storms and high winds.
3. The OneHD coverage of Hawaii Ironman last night left out all age group coverage. For those of you who watched and wondered about the significance of the guy who only got about 10 miles into the bike ... he is a heart transplant recipient and in 2009 just failed to make the swim cut off time. I think they showed about 40 mins (and about 20 mins of advts) of the 1.5 hr coverage. Thumbs down One HD.
4. Athlete tracking over the next few months is going to be exciting. We have people training for many interstate and overseas events along with those racing locally. Some are seasoned veterans while others are tackling the distances for the very first time. Whatever stage you are at we hope you are enjoying your training and have that finish line firmly in your sights.
5. The buzz of rising to the tri challenge and making it to the start line .... for whatever distance ... and then crossing the finish line, is a very sweet & satisfying feeling whether it's your first or your one hundred and first event. Luv it !
6. For those among you who have asked the question recently:
Darwin Triathlon Club: A group of enthusiastic, friendly, like minded souls based in Darwin who want swim/bike/run fun. Current President Phill Hatty
Triathlon NT: The administrative body for triathlon in the Northern Territory. Current President David McLeod
YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...
... you can eat a banana or a vegemite sandwich .... on a long run
... the sight of broken glass on the road sends shivers up your spin
... the broken glass is near your place and you think nothing of going out & sweeping it up with a small dustpan and brush - beats a sure puncture & who cares if passers-by think you are a nutter !
Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
