Robyn's E News 18 April 2011
Hi All,
We have experienced a mixture of weather recently, but with the drop in humidity late yesterday and the chill in the air this morning there are distinct signs that we are now in for some dry season conditions. Lets hope we get a rain free week and Lake Alex can be reopened soon.
Please check the club's email in your address book as it has changed to darwintriclub89@bigpond.com in an effort to beat the spam.

OTHER NEWS:
1. Ironman 70.3 New Orleans was modified to a bike/race due to high winds that churned up the waters and created unsafe conditions for water safety personal as well as athletes. Athletes were sent off at 30 sec intervals.
2. Storks been: Congratulations to Emma Winterflood and Aaron Caden on the arrival of their baby boy. Jacob was born Thursday weighing in at 3.8kgs and 50cm long, family all doing well.
3. Photos from Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships are now up on Flickr.
4. Not long to go now for those doing Port Mac Ironman and 70.3.
5. Word from our members in Canberra is that it has been very chilly indeed... as in ... heaters on and/or fires lit.
BLAST FROM THE PAST:
Triathlon NT Inc (then named the Triathlon Association of the Northern Territory) and Darwin Triathlon Club Inc became legally incorporated in August 1989.
The association's next step was to organise insurance cover for its members.
A five person committee was set up to administer the association with those 5 persons also being the committee for the only club in the Territory (Darwin Triathlon Club).
The committee's main aim was to increase the awareness of triathlons and therefore increase the number of triathletes in the NT. To achieve this the association/club held a race series through the wet season.
The concept was: the swim was held in a 50 m pool on a handicap start system. The slower competitors left first followed by two more groups. This enabled the slower competitors to lead and finish with the faster competitors. It also gave the faster athlete something to chase.
The cost per race was only $2. (Remember this is in 1989 ... it's now 2011 and the cost is still only $5)
Total members in 1989 were: 44
Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
