Robyn's E News 2 April 2012

Hi All,

Take a bow Darwin Triathlon Club! What an absolutely fantastic event we conducted yesterday.

A huge thank you to Korgan of Ray White Darwin who again sponsored the NT Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships and had the Ray White team, as well as family, on hand to assist us all.

Big thanks to President Phill Hatty (the man on the mic) who was our RD, Bin Birk the lady behind the scenes who bought it all together, the fantastic volunteers out along the bike course, NT Police for manning the lights, brilliant water safety team from NT Surf Life Saving, our awesome timekeeping teams, the TOs, St John Ambulance, Marg & Bob on the BBQ, the Coffee Angels who donated 10% of sales to the junior team, the juniors who helped out at the water station (weren’t they a welcome sight) and the zillion other people who helped out.

And it didn’t finish at Lake Alex, as we then had the marvellous Al Stancombe get to work. Al gave up his Sunday arvo to get the results out and posted in record time. Thanks Al !

OTHER NEWS:

1. Spotted at yesterday’s event – Justin Tranter doing a very quick puncture repair but still finishing strongly. Not so lucky - the interstater whose seat slipped and couldn’t be fixed - he rode most of the way standing up.

2. Great job done by the juniors on the run water station yesterday. A number were part of the NT Team heading off to Busselton this week.

3. Lance Armstrong managed 7th at IM 70.3 Texas in only his second 70.3. Think the last part of the run got a little hard. Yay, he is human after all !

4. Our Lake Bennett race is currently a sell out. Organising committee will be endeavouring to get as many of those waitlisted in and we thank you for your patience. No places can be offered until after the course is inspected again and risk assessments reviewed.

5. If you have already entered Lake Bennett and now find you aren’t competing, please let us know here so your spot can be given to someone else.

6. It was great to have so many interstaters competing yesterday. We had all states and territories represented. Their feedback was all positive. Many were very impressed with our club uniform and we had lots of requests to buy club shirts.

7. Also good to see the number of Katherine triathletes making the trip up to compete.

8. It’s been a rather busy couple of weeks in the lead up to yesterday’s event & now we get to do it all again for Lake Bennett in a fortnight.

9. If you haven’t yet been to Lake Bennett, it’s 80km down the track and makes a nice change from Darwin life.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ….

… a sprint distance event confirms your love of ironman
… you love going flat strap on the bike and not having to worry about the Fannie Bay lights
… you thanked all the volunteers as you rode past on your last lap

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
