Hi All,
We had
absolutely perfect weather conditions for the NT Olympic Distance Triathlon
Championships at Lake Alexander yesterday.
Race
director Brian Gallagher and all the amazing volunteers ensured competitors had
a great day racing. The 3 lap run course was a hit with competitors and
spectators alike. A huge thank you to Brian, to Col (2 IC RD), to the
brilliant timing teams, to those wonderful Surf Club water safety people, to
the technical team, the road marshals , the aid station volunteers and to the
squillion others who pitched in to help make the day such a success. We really
appreciated your efforts.
A huge
thank you also to Cycle Zone
for providing goodies for all the competitors. Cycle Zone is
located in Cavanagh St, opposite the GPO.
Our post
race refreshments were donated by Jetstream
Electrical, 11/6 Aristos Place Winnellie and we thank them
for their willingness to support our event. Post race refreshments went
down a treat.
We
encourage you to support our supporters!

OTHER NEWS:
1.
Russell Peacock was injured and unable to compete yesterday so was out instead
collecting donations on behalf of his NT Fire & Rescue Service Recruit
Course. They are running the City2Surf in full structural fire fighting
uniform as a fundraiser for the Make A Wish Foundation. Triathletes and
supporters gave generously and Russell collected $300+ for Make A Wish.
He’d like to thank everyone for their donations.
2.
Hollie Goodall took a tumble on the mount line yesterday!! She totally missed
the bike it fell from under her and unfortunately she landed awkwardly on
it. She soldiered on but eventually had to pull out resulting in her
first DNF in 18 yrs of racing! Hollie has been checked out and has bad bruising
& is very sore this morning Xrays didn’t show any fracture, but
they couldn’t be sure as it’s in a hard place to see. We wish Hollie a
speedy recovery, she has Bali to get ready for !
3.
Joy Glass is also a little sore this morning after coming off her bike (with a
little help from an inconsiderate motorist). We hope Joy also recovers
quickly, she was starting to feel that hip soreness after finishing
yesterday.
4.
Blue Watt is adapting to the cooler climes of the UK. In typical Blue fashion
he says it’s “bloody cold here in Hull, 1st run yesterday in a long sleeved
sweatshirt and gloves on”. With a bit of inside info Blue also says that
Ali Brownlee is now over injury and training at full speed for the upcoming
London Olympics.
5.
Who forgot their running shoes yesterday and had to send someone on a mercy
dash home to get them?
6.
Who is still cursing Telstra after losing near completed results for the NT OD
(including splits) when their signal dropped out again? Sorry guys, you
will have to wait for splits a little longer.
7.
Who is pleased to hear Al Stancombe is back from MTB madness and will take over
results preparation. Can’t begrudge him some time off from
volunteering. Al cleaned up in his category at Alice Springs Enduro last
week.
8.
Hear Harry Butler (sometimes member, always interested) is recovering from his
dramatic crash last week. I’m sure there are less painful ways to make
the front page of the NT News.
YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …
… you will
do the Duathlon on Sunday, but would rather have a swim first
… the bloke
at the bike shop knows more about you than your next door neighbour
.. you
don’t find the word “fartlek” the least bit amusing
Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
