Robyn's E News 14 March 2011

Hi All,

The pressure was on from the word go at Race 2 yesterday. First up, there was no swim due to the continued closure of Lake Alex so the event started with a slick 2.8km run. The competitors then had to negotiate Dick Ward Drive x 2 in very blustery conditions, and follow that with the final 5km run. The competition was on from the start !

Our thanks to RD Brian Gallagher for his efforts. Brian is an experienced RD with many years of volunteer service to the club and he is meticulous in his preparations to ensure your safety and fairness. Thanks also to the great mob of volunteers who assisted on the day. Much appreciated.

2. Items for E News by 8pm tomorrow please.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Rob Brooks is well connected these days and forwarded a correction regarding the mention of two punctures for Mirinda Carfrae
at IM NZ in the last E News. Rob says it was only one and how does he know this?? He asked her while chatting at the presentation dinner. The reason she lost so much time was the mechanics took ages to get to her to fix it. Thanks Rob.

2. Lee wishes to advise that Marrara track is now open. Friday track session has resumed at the track 6am friday mornings and the junior session monday 5pm has also moved back to Marrara. Please ensure if using the track to stay off the infield and not train in lanes 1 and 2.

3. There was a good turnout for the Level 1 Technical Officials Course on Friday evening. Many of our new TOs will be helping out at the NT Junior Championships & the Ray White Darwin NT Sprint Championships.

4. Triathlon NT is calling for expressions of interest for a Level 1 Coaching Course. Date yet to be confirmed but looking like June. Please email eotriathlonnt@gmail.com.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... you think of two or three races as being a big year (those ironpersons can relate to this one)
... you look up the yellow pages in each place you visit to see if they have any bike shops catering for triathletes
... you don't think it is unusual to own half a dozen pairs of bathers

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

5. It's great to see so many people out there enjoying their triathlon training and the added fitness benefits which come from adopting the triathlon lifestyle. Oh what a difference a couple of months make.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN ...

... your bike spares bag contents consist of an outdated Power Bar, one tyre lever, a questionable patch kit, a couple of $2 coins with god knows what stuck on them, a couple of tubes without a clue of which one has a hole, all tucked into a bag the size of your fist.
... you are more concerned about what to wear at your next race than the event distance
... you can finally eat a banana or a vegemite sandwich .... on a long run

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
