Robyn's E News 17 June 2013

Hi All,

With the later start time we were able to enjoy a sleep in first and then rug up for yesterday’s duathlon at Lee Point.  Hoodies and beanies were dragged out but by race start the conditions were just magic.

The format change to run, bike, run is well received at this time of year.  We welcomed a number of new members participating with us for the first time.  Great to have you on board.

Our thanks to RD Ron Griep for his work in setting up the course, much enjoyed by all.  Ronnie was out during the week measuring runs and the ride and double checking.  He also built an impressive run turn on the beach (with shades of Trevor the rubbish warrior about it).

Thanks also to all our wonderful volunteers who were on hand to help out - including the police officer who assisted with traffic control on the bike course.

RESULTS:

1.  Race 1 Duathlon Series, Lee Point 2km run, 13km bike, 2km run

OTHER NEWS:

1. Congratulations to Stef Puszka and Marcus Lisle who have qualified for Ironman World Championships, Hawaii in October.

1.  Chicago will host 2015 ITU World OD Championships.

2.  Steve Goat is nursing some road rash after being taken out during the bike leg at Cairns. Instead of running through the finish chute, Steve was being cared for at Port Douglas hospital. He came down to the finish area later in the evening to reassure everyone he was fine.  Unfinished business in Cairns for Steve.

3.  Former DTC committee member Robbie Andrews also won his age group at IM Cairns and is off to Kona again.  Eight years between drinks for Robbie.

4.  Adele Butler was part of the technical team at IM Cairns.  She was out on the bike keeping a watchful eye out for 12 metre infringements.  There were penalties handed out, but appears the day was mostly clean which is a credit to the tech team & athletes.

5.  If you have family, friends or workmates who wish to “tri”, remember the SBJF Corporate Triathlon is scheduled for Saturday 29 June 2013.  It’s a doable individual or team effort of 300m swim, 10km ride, 3km run and all funds raised go to Royal Flying Doctor Service.  Open to everyone, you can get more info and how to enter here.

6.  Ironman Cairns & 70.3 date for next year 8 June 2013.  Entry opens next week.

Cheers,
Robyn
