E NEWS - 9 SEPT 2015 The humidity is increasing & the pool lanes are getting busier, which can only mean one thing - good bye Dry Season, hello Build Up & beware Mango Madness! In tri club land we are excited to bring you our three event Super Sprint Series which kicks off this weekend.  A fourth event will also be held with start times to be based on handicaps calculated on times posted during the series. You (our members) asked for it, so don't miss out, get your online entries in for all three or just selected event dates here. Important:  We are still seeking volunteer RD's for each of the events 13 Sept, 27 Sept, 11 Oct.  Volunteering as RD earns maximum points, so we encourage you to consider giving up just one race to benefit the club. Anyone who hasn't yet been RD will be mentored through the process, so don't be shy.  If you are willing to help out please email darwintriclub@gmail.com now.   NEXT EVENT: Sunday 13 Sept 2015 Super Sprint Series #1 Lake Alexander 7am (check in closes 6:45am) Distance:  300m swim, 13km bike, 3km run Roster: Race Director:  Volunteer Required Registration:     Gayle Viney | Alan Barrett Fruit | Ice:         Jude Murdock Earlybird online entry for full series (or you can select your dates) open until 8pm Friday here. Note: 1.  We usually have high turnout for this distance, so your early entry will be appreciated. 2.  Roads are open so all traffic regulations apply including stopping if lights are RED. 3.  This is a non drafting event and please ensure you keep to the left of the lane unless overtaking. 3.  Please check the basic rules of triathlon.   OTHER NEWS: 1.  Challenge Laguna Phuket Tri-Fest is a great end of year event.  The Laguna Phuket Tri (22 Nov) is 1.8km swim, 55km bike, 12km run & Challenge Laguna Phuket the following weekend (1 Dec) is 1.9km, 90km bike, 21km run.  The courses are different but each has a challenging bike course and an awesome sense of achievement on finishing. Many competitors make a week off it and do both events! 2.  Going to be down south in January?  Check out Challenge Melbourne (31 Jan 16). 3.  Congratulations to the winners of our Series entry competition - lst to enter Lorna Perry (club cap), 11th to enter Barry Sullivan (club t shirt) & 20th to enter Rosie Sullivan (club cap).  You can collect your prizes on Sunday! 4.  Big crew heading for Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast this weekend including Kate Robertson, Aiden Geaney, Rachel McLean, Matt King, Andrew Hardy, Corinne Fabian, Ange Castle, Jamie Hagan, Amy Pallentine, Jac Crofton, Heath Porter, Luke Fronsko, Sally Broadley, Angela Librio, Kylie Scholz, Tim Green, Nick Hubbard and Phil Blumberg.  Good luck! 5.  You can live track all the action from the Sunny Coast at www.ironman.com. 6.  Stingers don't know the date & they have already stung off Casuarina Beach. E NEWS - 2 SEPTEMBER 2015 The Townsville visitors who joined us at our Open Water Triathlon gave us the thumbs up! We managed to turn on a tougher than usual swim for them because of the high tide, and they loved the bike & run course. A Super Sprint Handicap to follow after that based on times. 2.  You can see that the roster is short on volunteers & this is repeated across all four events at the moment. 3.  Please check the Calendar asap and volunteer where you can so we can ensure our events go ahead. 4.  For those with long memories, the Race Director position is as easy as compared to a few years ago. Sanctioning & permits are all done, water safety & ambulance attendance is pre-organised, swim buoy positions are permanent and there are always experienced people around to mentor those RD-ing for the first time.    INVITE FOR THOSE ATHLETES HEADING TO SUNSHINE COAST 70.3: 1.  Ange Castle & Jamie Hagan are super excited to be heading back to their old stomping ground for Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast.  They have been members of Caloundra Tri Club since its inception a few years back and being a fun, friendly and welcoming club, they have invited Darwin Triathlon Club members to join them at the club tent for the event. 2.  Perhaps we can call ourselves sister-clubs as Jason & Emma Cook swapped clubs at very similar time (we do like to give back) & Jason has also reiterated this invite from their new club!   3.  The blue club marquee with the ibis symbol will be sitting atop the Alex Heads hill, very near the intersection where the bike course heads inland - perfect spot! The club esky and barbie will be pumping with cold drinks and snags at a few bucks a pop. The marquee will be set up from the evening before so it is available before, during and after the race. 4.  Thanks to Caloundra Tri Club for this invite to members.   OTHER NEWS: 1.  Run With Dad Father's Day Fun Run this Sunday. 2.  Thanks to those who nominated DTC for the Super Tuesday Bike Count  including Clare Labowitch, Robyn Stanley, Tony Cox & John Cowie.  The club will receive $50 for each nomination. 3.  Reminder that our Junior Event originally scheduled for this Sunday has been cancelled due to venue clash with Run With Dad fun run. 4.  Countdown to Bali International Triathlon 25 October 2015.  There have been some cheap flights on offer. 5.  If you are after club tri gear (medium tri pants, small top womens) check out the bargain on the DARWIN TRI - BUY | SWAP | SELL | WANTED Facebook page.
