E News 4 May 2016

E NEWS 4 MAY 2016

Once again the Enduro format yanked competitors from their comfort zone, taking many by surprise.  Though it looks easy, by the time the finish line is reached you know you have achieved something special.  Well done to all competitors, particularly those experiencing the format for the first time.

A big shout out to first time RD Clare McVeity who had all bases covered for this event. Clare was ably assisted by a posse of volunteers including regulars Alan Barrett & Gayle Viney on rego; our timing guru Gary Wall who had 17 different mat reads to juggle; Brianna Arrigo and Raz Dejongh who stepped in to cover fruit & ice (yum), president Tony Cox as always overseeing and all those who just chipped in on the day. Thank you, we couldn't do it without you all.

Last but not least, a big thank you to Cycle Zone Darwin for providing lucky draw prizes, we had very happy winners!

1.  Anyone volunteering for RD will find they will have lots of willing  helpers.  All the behind the scenes work (permits, water safety, St John, sanctioning etc) is already done and if race briefs aren't your thing, we can cover that as well.

2.  Here's hoping we get inundated with emails today from volunteers for those vacant roster positions.

3.  Our club thrives on it's volunteer culture and if you haven't yet put up your hand during 2015|2016 please consider giving back a little.

OTHER NEWS:

1.  We said farewell to Keith Radley at the weekend.  Keith is heading back to Ireland, after having stepped up a triathlon notch during his time with the club.  Best of luck Keith and we hope to see photos of you sporting the DTC kit in a home event real soon.

2. We mentioned last week that Jean Sereni was also heading off - he'll be rocking the DTC club colours in Dubai.

3. Another Dag of the Year nomination - this time Gary Wall who just can't seem to figure out the front and back of his helmet.

4.  Don't forget to send in any Dag nominations you come across or hear about - all nominators shall remain anonymous.

5.  It's National Road Safety Week.  Family Fun Day at Holtze St Parap, 9am - 12pm this Sat bring bikes & helmet.

6.  Good luck to all our members heading for WA and the Lake Argyle Swim this weekend. Stu Fitch is lining up for the 20km solo and the rest are in teams.

7.  Winging their way to Langkawi for XTERRA Malaysia we have Rob Brooks, Rowena Eastick and Cath Hood.  Good luck!

8.  Lining up at Ironman 70.3 Vietnam this weekend - Billy Lynch, Stef Puszka and Hannah Johnston. They will be hoping it's not quite as hot as last year.  Good luck!

9.  Mother's Day Classic - 8 May 16

10.  Been awhile between Ironman finishes for Ali Ftich and she has since announced that IMOZ last weekend was her final Ironman as a pro triathlete. Among her many Ironman achievements, Ali recorded a 2nd at IM Canada in 2008, and 2nd IM Malaysia. 3rd IM Switzerland and 4th IM WA during 2007.  Ali's first Ironman was IM Australia so to finish her pro IM career there on Sunday was fitting.  May have been her last pro IM, but you can bet it in that we haven't yet seen the last of Ali.

11.  Club T shirt winners for our Enduro entry:  Courtney Morgan and Jo Duncan

12.  Volunteer draw winner - Brianna Arrigo

13.  Member lucky draw winners:  Barry Sullivan, David Hancock, Courtney Morgan

PIC OF THE WEEK:

Back when we kickstarted 2012 with an Aquathlon at Nightcliff Pool

Cheers,
Robyn

OTHER NEWS:

1.  Good luck to our junior co-ordinator Mel Lind who is stepping up in distance this weekend at Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie.

2.  A girl's weekend away coming up for Kylie Scholz & Ali Fitch.  They are both on the start list for Ironman Australia.  See today's NT News.

3.  Heading West this weekend is Dee Walsh who will be tackling Ironman 70.3 Busselton.  Good luck!
4.  Another farewell.  This time it's Jean Serini who is leaving Darwin.  He says,  "It has been an immense pleasure being part of the club in the Top End, even if it was for a little period of time".  All the best Jean - we will always remember your first swim leg!!

5.  Well done to our members who took part in the Anzac Day Swim Challenge including timing guru Gary Wall who got through 5.05km in a wettie and Stu Fitch who is preparing for the 20km Lake Argyle swim & knocked over 8.4km.

6.  Also noticed team Moiron came out of retirement for the swim.  Moria Wigley and Ronnie Griep are past Lake Argyle duo team champions.

7.  Entry is open here for our Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships taking place at Lake Bennett Resort on Saturday 21 May 2016 4:30pm.  This is our highlight club event for the season and if you haven't yet had a crack at the Lake Bennett course, put it on your must do list now.  It's a great afternoon / evening event and satisfaction level at crossing the finish line is second to none.  There are two distances - Championship 1km swim, 30km bike, 8km run or a short option of 500m swim, 15km bike, 4km run.  We highly recommend booking a room or a camping spot at Lake Bennett Resort (mention the club) and making a weekend of it.

8.  We still have a call out for a volunteer Race Director for our Lake Bennett event.  Let us know if you are interested in helping out.

9.  Bumped into Michael Mondy this week.  He is still out of action with injuries from his bike/car bingle which put him out of Busso last year.  Very frustrating for him, he is itching to get back to training and we hope that will be real soon.

10.  Hearing Kathryn Fuller is catching big barra this week.

11.  We still have 1 x Men's club tri suit Medium ($160), 1 x Men's club tri shorts Medium ($77) for sale.  Email if interested in purchasing.
