Robyn's E News 29 February 2012

Hi All,

This weekend our triathletes come out to play!!

We have ticked off our wet season events of splash n dashes and the mtb triathlon. Thinking back to this time last year, many of us were involved in our post-Carlos clean ups and training was something to fit in around torrential rain and severe weather. In contrast this year, we haven’t “lost” much training time to the weather gods, but looking back does remind us why we don’t kick off our triathlons until now.
Sunday is the start of our annual Sprint Series of events and the buzz is a collective “bring it on”!

As this event is at the Palmerston Aquatic Centre, don’t forget to set the alarm a little earlier than usual if you live in Darwin to factor in the extra driving/riding time. Good idea to double check that you have all your gear as well, it’s a long way to go back for a forgotten helmet or shoes. Our Palmerston & rural area members get to have the sleep in for a change this weekend.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Ron Griep participated in the Rottnest Swim at the weekend in a duo team and they completed the distance in 6 hrs 06 mins.

2. There is an opportunity for interested women to participate in a new WOW (women on wheels) initiative of Darwin Cycling Club. Saturday morning is the first LONG ride for WOW (around 30km). The ride will start at 7am at the Velodrome, as it is a safe place for car parking for those who wish to drive there first.

The WOW ride will head up McMillans Road on the Bike Path, across Vanderlin Drive and down McMillans extension to where it hits the Stuart Highway. Turn around at this point and head back to the Velodrome. Organisers say to bring your water bottles, freeze one the night before, it will thaw very quickly, and a snack if you wish to eat while you ride. Contact is Nerida 0409 070 455

3. The new Bali International Triathlon bike course has been announced. For those of you who did the very first Bali tri, it’s back to the 2 laps on the ByPass /Nusa Dua route and does include the Nikko hill in the Olympic distance.

4. Thanks to those who have already collected their uniform orders. I will only bring orders to Palmerston for those who have confirmed they will be there to collect.

5. Bonk Breaker have been named the official energy bar for all U.S. Ironman, Ironman 70.3 and 5150 Triathlon Series events. Of interest if you are training for an event in the US.

6. IM New Zealand takes place this weekend as well as the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon. Abu Dhabi pro field is looking like an early season “who’s who” of triathlon. Happy tracking !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN…

… you have been known to drink a recovery drink on the loo or in the shower
… you have more water bottles than glasses in your cupboard
… you go to see a movie and fall asleep

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
