Hi All,
Were you
riveted to the screen last night? The parts of the men’s triathlon that
we actually saw were electrifying (so long as you didn’t pay much attention to
a certain commentator).
Now that
the dust has settled on the Olympics & the Ultra Challenge and with the
Gran Fondo being knocked over this weekend, we can again focus on all the local
tri action coming up. It’s a stacked program over the next couple of
months.
We have our
tri at Lake Alex on the 19 August, followed that evening by our Presentation
Night function at il Lido at the Waterfront. Finlay’s NT Long Course
Triathlon is the following weekend (26 August) and the week after is Fernwood
All Girls Tri (2 September). They are then followed by our Open Water
Triathlon & AGM (9 Sept) and our juniors kick off with the Kids Triathlon
on 16 September. We will need extra volunteers to get us through this
crazy busy time, so watch for requests.
Our
function, Long Course and Fernwood All Girls Tri all require online
registration. If your newsletter links haven’t been working, they are
also available on our website.

2.
Tension while watching the tri last night … which lap was Jonathan Brownlee
going to elect to serve his penalty? Reports say he at first thought it
was for his brother and had to check his arm before he realised it was his
number.
3.
Sad to see previous gold medal winner, Canadian Simon Whitfield hit the deck.
4.
Courtney Atkinson was best of the Australians. Watch for a new crop of
Aussie boys coming through with Rio on their mind. They got a good
demonstration of what’s required from the Brownlee boys.
4. At
recent training and club events there have been some improvements across all
three disciplines on display. It’s great to see many are by women who had their
first swim, bike, run experience at a Fernwood All Girls
Tri. Our third Fernwood All Girls Tri
is coming up again and they have the opportunity to see just how much they have
progressed. Open to all female members and non members 18+. Enter
online here.
5. Fernwood All Girls Tri has a Facebook Page. You
can keep up to date with event info, interesting stories, photos, maps etc here. LIKE while you are there.
6.
Don’t forget the bike path at the Museum is now closed for a couple of days.
7. Did you
know that the Comalco Can Man triathlon run from Nightcliff Pool (early 80’s)
had a Turtle Award for the last finisher?
8.
Super Tuesday is a nationally coordinated community bike count and after the
success of the first count in the NT last year, bike counts will again be
undertaken in Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs on Tuesday 4 September
between 6.30 and 8.30 am.
Bike counts
will be undertaken in Queensland and the NT on the same day and added to the
national bike count database (with counts undertaken in March this year in
other States). Department of Lands and Planning, together with the City
of Darwin is supporting the bicycle count and about 80 sites have been
identified for counting in Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs.
Super Tuesday
represents an opportunity for our members to participate in the counts as a
volunteer counter and also support the club - volunteers who participate in the
count can nominate Darwin Triathlon Club to receive $50.00. Please
nominate us to receive the donation when registering.
