Hi All,
This is a
quick mid week E News mainly to convey a few extra details for the weekend.
As it is
expected to be the usual warm conditions at Lake Bennett, please ensure you
have at least 2 (two) full water bottles on your bike for the bike leg (and
don’t forget to drink).
To assist
athletes, we will be setting up a special needs table for the run.
Athletes are welcome to place their own fluid bottles/gels on this table prior
to race start. Please ensure they are clearly marked with your
name. You will be responsible for finding your own bottles/gels on the
table during the run.
The usual
water stations (start/finish area and near turnaround on the run) will be in
place.
Please
note: No outside assistance is allowed (ie your supporters are not
allowed to hand you water bottles etc on either the bike or run course).
With the
assistance of Triathlon NT technical delegate Adele Butler, our “10 important
race rules” sheet has been revised. Please check the attached copy as
there have been a few changes.
We look
forward to seeing you all at Lake Bennett at the weekend. Don’t forget to allow
extra travel time and to check that you have all your gear before leaving –
it’s too far to drive back if you have forgotten your cycle shoes etc (don’t
laugh, it’s happened more than once)!

Notes:
1.
Please note we are using the car park at the Resort as transition. If you
aren’t booked at the Resort for the night, you will need to park outside. On
the way in, it will help if you drive past the
Resort gates before parking. We ask that you
consider the safety of competitors prior to parking and make sure you are well
off the road.
2.
Ensure you are well hydrated prior to this event.
3.
Bring your own water … it is not recommended that you drink the local bore
water.
4. There
is a small shop at the Resort selling drinks/ice-cream etc so you may wish to
consider bringing snacks.
5.
Toilet facilities are located on the pool deck area at the rear of the Resort
reception. Please consider guests if you make use of Resort facilities.
6.
Triathlon Australia Race Competition Rules apply including no drafting.
Drafting is cheating. Attached is a copy of the very basic rules of
triathlon. Please ensure you read prior to this event.
7.
Don’t forget to slip, slop, slap.

OTHER NEWS:
1.
Following publication of the athlete information booklet for Ironman Australia
it is worth noting the following entry regarding the Swim Rules for wetsuits:
“Wetsuits
will be tight to the athletes body. Where any part of the wetsuit can
separate from the athlete’s body in any phase of the stroke it is considered as
an artificial propulsion device and is banned eg. Speedo Tri Elite full sleeved wetsuit and Rocket
Science Carbon wetsuit with carbon drive.”
“Wetsuits
will be no thicker than 5mm. De Soto Water Rover is
banned”.
2.
And this clarification regarding swim suits, trisuits and speed suits:
“…the
garment must be 100% textile (eg lycra, nylon) and not have any rubberised
material eg polyurethane or neoprene”.
3.
The above are not new rules, but it is the first time that the banned brands
have been noted. Moral of the story: always check that wetsuits are
triathlon legal before purchasing.
4. We
hear from a number of sources that the road at Lake Bennett is in good condition.
Great news for Saturday afternoon!
5.
Also hearing that those upside down jellyfish are making themselves felt in
Lake Alex. Pesky critters more nuisance than anything else. Ice is
best remedy if you do happen to get a sting.
6.
Young Nicholas Tremblay was also among those juniors who attended the recent
Triathlon NT Junior Development Camp. Sorry we inadvertently missed
listing him last E News.
