Robyn's E News 13 June 2012

Hi All,

We have a lot of interest from people new to Darwin wanting to do our triathlon at the weekend.  Good news, those who join Darwin Triathlon Club online here will have their membership rolled over for the 2012/2013 season.

OTHER NEWS:

1.  Emma Snowsill’s appeal to make the Olympic team has been dismissed.  Her statement, “Whilst I am upset with the outcome, I have to respect the decision of the Tribunal and will not be pursuing the matter further. I would like to stress that my appeal never involved a merits review of any of the athletes involved, nor the selection committee’s decision. It instead went to matters concerning the selection process, however the Tribunal was satisfied that there was no legal error to be found in the evidence before it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words and support. It has been a difficult time and one I am glad to have resolved. To that end, I would like to again apologise to those affected by my appeal and to thank the other athletes for their discretion in the matter. My appeal was never a criticism of their abilities and I sincerely wish them all the best for their preparations and performances in London.”

2.  A couple of our members were injured on Monday.  Belinda Birk has undergone surgery to have her elbow pinned.  Kate Robertson has injured her shoulder and Jenny Anderson has a cracked elbow.  There is also some road pizza and a bruises appearing but all are thankful that it wasn’t more serious.  We wish all those injured a very speedy recovery.

3. We also hear that others on the ride were brilliant in dealing with first aid & comforting those injured, as well as managing traffic.

4.  2013 Ironman Australia has sold out at 1800 spots.

5.  Work is continuing to secure/find a venue for our Presentation Night Dinner.  We are trying to avoid other major events so pencil in weekend of 18 August.  We will confirm asap.  Not a lot of suggestions/tips received.  Thanks to those that did respond.

6.  Be a little wary out there on the roads this weekend.  V8 fumes guaranteed to bring out the speed monsters.

7.  See you Sunday at Lake Alexander.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… one of your life's goals is a race bib that says "Anything is Possible"
… your annual energy expenditure is comparable to the output of a small electricity generation plant
… your bike is worth more than your car. And it goes faster too.

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
