JUNIOR REPORT:
Nerida reports .... "The juniors met on Sunday at Lake Alex for another fun filled morning of racing. Good weather helped everyone enjoy a Triathlon around the "Spot On Marine" side of the lake.
Seniors completed a couple of laps in the lake, then 3 laps around the lake on their Mountain Bikes. Followed by a long run down to the boat ramp, out to the main road, and back to the lake. Juniors and Sub Juniors did a similar but shorter course.
The team event was a cycle relay and very much enjoyed by the amounts of laughter and applause after handicapped competitors took to the course.
The juniors are performing well with many significant improvements seen these past few weeks. Only one more race day to go till the NT Championships. Next fortnight at the Ski Club (15th) and the Championships on the 29th March at Lake Alex once again.
All are welcome to come and watch and assist if available for the final racing of the juniors for the season. Thanks once again to the many helpful parents who assisted with set up and marshalling on Sunday.

OTHER NEWS:
1. Triathlon Australia (TA) would like to inform you that the ITU has approved an application to have the number of Australian athletes selected for the 2009 World Triathlon Championships on the Gold Coast increased from 25 to 30 in each age group. This application was made by USM Events, supported by TA and ultimately approved by the ITU as a result of concerns that the world financial crisis would adversely affect the number of overseas athletes prepared to travel to this event.
In supporting this initiative, TA was mindful that the prestige of representing your country must be maintained and, as a result, the qualification process should remain a challenging one. However, due to the unprecedented interest shown in qualifying for the World Championships - not to mention the impressive times being posted - we felt the honour that comes with wearing the green and gold would not be unduly compromised by this decision. Harsh financial realities and a desire to ensure World Championships hosted by Australia are fully embraced and appreciated, were also considered. The ITU saw a need to support these championships by providing further incentive for the host nation and fostering participation. While we appreciate this decision will not be embraced by everyone, you can be assured it was not taken lightly and we hope you can appreciate why it was made.
So, to those looking to qualify for the Gold Coast World Championships, don't miss this unique opportunity. There are now an extra five spots available for each age group on the Australian team and, with only a few qualifying races left in each of the distance categories, the chance to be a part of something memorable has been extended for those on the cusp of selection. Regarding the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Perth, at this stage the number of spots per age group remains at 25. Application deadlines are as follows: Sprint - March 24; Olympic Distance - April 7; Long Distance - May 4. Best wishes to all those attempting to qualify and if you have any questions in regard to the amended policy, please do not hesitate to contact the TA office.
2. Interested in doing Mooloolaba? You would need to put your name on the waiting list.
3. The Flickr page will be updated soon with photos from the last event. Some photo sets disappeared there for a bit but all are back to normal now.
4. We have two members qualified so far for 2009 Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Congratulations to Nikki Roddie on securing a coveted slot with her age group first at Ironman Malaysia. Dreams do come true!
5. Bali International Triathlon numbers are up. If you are wanting to compete in the 28 June 09 event it would be a good idea to register now. Try and make sure you can arrive there early enough to participate in the bike blessing ceremony.
6. The dates have been confirmed for the Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival: 10-16 January 2010 in New Zealand. The next festival will include something for the whole family: Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka, a 5km Fun Run, Swim the Course, Tri NZ Contact Cup Series and the signature event Challenge Wanaka as well the inaugural Lake Wanaka Half.
7. Best of luck to Shaye Hatty and Alison Croser who are both competing in IM New Zealand this weekend.
Triathlon 3 x the fun
Cheers

Robyn's E News 23 Feb 09
Hi All,
It was billed as a Challenge Race and it was! First up the swim was a deep water start and it was any stroke bar freestyle, the mtb was a new course so competitors had to be alert and the run was along the beach all the way to Dudley Point and included a push up, a sit up and a chin up and then just to finish off, a basketball slam dunk was required !! RD Aaron Caden kept up the secrecy right until race brief !
Our thanks to Aaron for his efforts with this event which also included providing a great breakfast of juice, BBQ bacon & egg sangas and iced coffee (as well as the cooks) - to add to the normal post race refreshments. Aaron was assisted by a fantastic group of volunteers and our thanks also go to them for their assistance.
