Words of wisdom ...

... We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
... Evening news is where they begin with 'Good evening', and then proceed to tell you why it isn't.
... Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

Photo: Race 1 Duathlon gets off to a quick start at Lee Point

Hi All,

What a great weekend of activities for the club. First up we had our annual Presentation Night on Friday and it was a sell out, standing room only affair ! The "Alter Ego" theme got a fantastic response (keep your eye on flickr for photos - up soon). The award winners are listed below.

Congratulations to all winners and also to retiring president John Thyne who was awarded Life Membership.

Thanks to Alison Croser, Shaye Hatty, Ryoko Jones and crew for their efforts in making it such a memorable night.

A big crowd fronted yesterday for Race 1 of the Duathlon Series. RD Rob Brooks was out early setting up the course, our thanks to Rob and all the wonderful volunteers who assisted with the event. As always, the Lee Point course proved to be a toughie.

Then later yesterday, many of us got behind Chad, Heath and Jason via the direct ITU coverage from Budapest. Well done guys! They can now have a well deserved holiday in Europe. No doubt there will be interesting race reports to come.

We have been involved with a number of major & club events over the past few months and we are all fast approaching volunteer burnout time. We just need to keep the momentum going for our NT Duathlon next Sunday (part of the Australian Duathlon Series) & then things get back to normal.

6. As well as winning his age group, Ron Griep was 4th overall male at the Vietnam International Triathlon on Saturday afternoon. He had an impressive swim, run and was 2nd off the bike. Our most improved is still improving.

7. Around 50 Darwin mountain bikers have headed over for the Tour de Timor. It's been pretty wet and they have had flooding & some bridges have been washed out on the course.

8. News from Budapest is that Chad Anderson was sitting pretty for age group 4th or 5th but has continued on for another short run lap . Understandably upset with himself.

9. A number of you select "no email" when taking up or renewing your membership online. Those people will not have received news of the details of the special offer to enter the 2011 Australian National Triathlon Championship Series. I recommend you reconsider and go into your record and change this selection as it may also mean you miss other important announcements including NT Championships, Arafura Games info etc.

10. Darwin Cycling Club have advised that unfortunately due to the low number of people registering for the NT Cycling Championships they have had to cancel this year's event. Might be a great opportunity to form a team with a gun cyclist for our NT Duathlon on Sunday !!

11. Tim Green was second at the 5km Open Water Swim champs at Lake Bennett on Saturday.

12. And as our new season is already two & half months underway, don't forward to forward details of bike crashes and dag of the year nominations as they happen to darwintriclub@bigpond.com They are kept confidentially under wraps until next awards night ! If we don't hear about it now it may well be forgotten ... so don't be shy, dob in a dag or a ground inspector as it happens.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you see the sun rise ... a lot !
... on Friday night you vowed to do more club events
... you sit on a windtrainer under a tree 'cause your injury prevents you from competing in the duathlon

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn

They are now able to use the pool for swimming but have to remove then replace the covers to swim in the mystery temp water. Alice Springs Tri Club members have Masters Games firmly in their sights.

8. Hopefully we will see some of the Alice crew up here for the NT Duathlon on 19 September.

9. Get cracking on that "Alter Ego" !
