Robyn's E News 18 June 08

Hi All,

I hope many of you have sorted yourself into teams for Sunday. Please don't stress if you haven't yet had time, just come on down on race day and organise a team then. There will be plenty of "spare" team members.

NEXT EVENT:

Sunday 22 June 08
Teams Event
750/25/5
Lake Alexander 7.30am start - Registration closes 7.15am sharp.
Race Director: Matt Hubber 0400 284 230
Registration: Belinda Birk / Bertram Birk
Timekeeping: Tymeka Mibus / Rosie Sullivan
Fruit / Ice: Lesley Thorpe

1. The teams event will be conducted using the same format as last year. The idea of this event is for members to form teams and have some fun racing together. There are no age group points just a participation point for the race.
2. Teams consist of four people. Of the four, three team members need to finish the race. (This is to cater for a flat tyre or other incident which stops one person from completing)
3. Participants are encouraged to find a theme for their team and dress accordingly.
4. Drafting is allowed within the team but not between teams.
5. If you don’t have a team then come to the event any way and some teams can be made up on the day.
6. Entry fee is $5 per person.
7. One day licenses are available at $20

OTHER NEWS:

1. Great news for the Juniors. Woolworths have awarded the juniors a grant of $3000. Thanks to Belinda Birk for her efforts here.
2. Our sincere condolences to Paul & Kylie Sheffield following the passing of Paul's dad. Our thoughts are with them & family at this time.
3. I hear Shaye Hatty was ecstatic with her performance in the Comrades Run and happy with the result. Shaye gave a good interview with ABC radio afterwards & apparently the hills were unbelievable, almost mountainous were her words. Her legs were smashed after the first 21km where some of the biggest hills are. She regrouped and held a consistent 6:30/km pace for the rest of the run. She has some very nasty blisters but apart from that felt great so she is recovering well.
4. Also from Shaye - apparently a male runner was ambushed at gun point and his Nike shoes stolen, he ran the last 50km barefoot and finished.
5. Some great results in City2Surf for our members. 5 out of the top 10 guys & the female winner were DTC members. In the men's category winners, all but one were triathletes. Members were also represented in the Mini Surfer as well, with many of our juniors placing posting good results.
6. You would have seen the call for interested persons for local organising committee for the Arafura Games Triathlon. A range of skills are required, so if you can help out please get in touch with Brett.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...
...you get excited because you find a new Gu (or similar) flavour you can tolerate
...you start work in half an hour & you are still hot & sweaty in cycling gear

Triathlon 3 x the fun
Cheers
Robyn
