Hi All,

We hope you are all looking forward to the first event of the new 2011/2012 Season at Lake Alexander on Sunday.

At committee level work is continuing on next season's calendar and we will get that circulated asap calling for volunteers for the RD, registration, timekeeping and fruit/ice positions. These have to be filled before the calendar can go to print. There is an expectation that all members will volunteer at least once in a season. Any gaps are filled with names not already on the calendar.

We are also happy to let you know that we have a couple of capable & enthusiastic members who have volunteered to assist with our Presentation Night Dinner arrangements. Watch for further details!

The awards committee is also looking into our various winners and this is now your last chance to send in details of the daggy doings noticed out there over the past 12 months. All contributions will be forever anonymous and can be forwarded to darwintriclub89@bigpond.com now.

OTHER NEWS:

1. A reminder from NT Swimming that this Saturday’s Gatorade Open Water Meet at the Waterfront Lagoon has a 4pm start time instead of the early morning start originally advertised. Registrations: 3.10-3.40pm; Race Briefing: 3.45pm. Entry form attached if you want to save time at the registration table. .

2. There is also an 800m handicap Community Swim will be held by Surf Lifesaving NT after the Swimming NT events – a fun event for all.

3. Many of you will remember young Alistair Donohoe cracking whips at our Pine Creek MTB tris and later as he developed into a fine young triathlete & cyclist, before he headed off to school in Victoria.

Over summer Alistair was in the Victorian U17 Track Team and was part of the Team Pursuit that scored a Gold at the National champs. He managed to get into A grade at the Sandown crits and raced about 4 races before summer ended - significant because he was the only 16 year old there, restricted gears and still on the old Trek. Mum Amanda lashed out then and bought him a new bike.

It is now the road season. He was selected to be part of a National Talent Identification Squad that went to Tasmania where he won the U17 Mersey Valley Junior tour with pelaton tactics that could only have been learnt at Hidden Valley. Mum Amanda says modestly that he does not do brilliantly at every race but is generally in the first bunch over the line. Looking ahead to the U19's they know that next year it will be a lot tougher especially as he will compete against the likes of a guy called Alex Morgan - a cycling freak. We wish Alistair all the best as he continues with his sporting pursuits (which still include the occasional triathlon).

4. You can now LIKE the new Darwin Triathlon Club PAGE on Facebook. The old DTC Facebook Group will be shut down shortly. Make sure you make the switch to continue to get your updates.

5. I have a couple of uniform orders still to be collected. Please collect from me on Sunday at Lake Alexander.

6. Registrations for Level 1 Coaching Course to be held in Darwin (16-17 July) close Monday 4 July 2011. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you iron your race bibs & file or display them for future admiration
... you find yourself saying "on your left" as you pass other trolleys at the supermarket
... your inventory of visors & caps is enormous but as many are event specific, you can't bring yourself to throw any away

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
