Robyn's E News 18 January 2012

Hi All,

Finally … some welcome rain to cool things down ! That was quite a brilliant sound and light display put on by Mother Nature this morning.

The BoM radar was very, very colourful.

Seems everyone is looking forward to the commencement of our 2012 program. For the guys, our Aquathlon Series will be wide open this year with 2010/2011 winner David Crane working overseas.

Thanks to those who have already placed their order for club uniform. The order closes on Tuesday so I encourage you to get your order in now and not miss out. The club subsidies the design and freight costs so that our members can enjoy quality items for training and racing at very reasonable cost. Order online here now.

MEMBER FEEDBACK:

1. From Juliette Neve: “Our family is heading off to be Expats in Mozambique for a few years. We would have loved to have stayed in Darwin and I would have loved to have raced more within the club. What an amazing welcoming bunch you all are for members at all levels. Hopefully I can keep up the training. Thanks to all club members for the inspiration.”

2. From Paul Hollander: “I have been posted to the Blue Mountains and will not be back in Darwin for quite a few years now, unfortunately.

Thank you for all your efforts and support during my membership at the Tri club. It was a great experience that I'll be sure to continue whilst in NSW.”

OTHER NEWS:

1. Ironman World Champion Chrissie Wellington has announced she will be taking a break from racing this year. Wellington said, "I've given absolutely everything to Ironman over the past five years”.

"However, this year I would like to spend more time focusing on other pursuits including dedicating more time to my chosen charities, the publication of my book and more active promotion of the sport in the UK."

The tri world is buzzing with the news and much discussion centres on who will benefit most from her absence on the podium at Kona this year.

2. Also setting the tri world alight this week were comments on cyclists tweeted by hair loss know it all Shane Warne. Warne copped some serious tweet flack from the likes of Craig Alexander, Chris McCormack, Luke McKenzie et al

3. With some leaked images of the much awaited Cervelo P5 doing the rounds, Cervelo had to release a couple of pics ahead of the official launch.

4. Ray White Darwin will again sponsor our NT Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships (1 April). The event is also the final in our annual Sprint Series and is a selection points race for ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships in Auckland later this year.

5. Want to know more about how to gain selection for any of the Triathlon Australia 2012 Age Group Teams for ITU World Championship events?
Check out the selection criteria and nomination process here .

6. Tour Down Under got underway in Adelaide yesterday in 39 degrees and windy conditions. Spectacular crash … ouch !

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you are happy to be able to grab a hand of bananas again without thinking about the cost
… you wish “someone” would invent soft, leak resistant goggles
… you have already held your tri pants up to the light to check if they need to be binned.

See you all at Nightcliff Pool on Saturday,
Cheers,
Robyn
