Robyn's E News 11 April 2012

Hi All,

A busy behind the scenes week for volunteers in the lead up to our Kerran Mudgway Memorial Club Championships at Lake Bennett, so E News is short and sweet today.

If you haven’t done this event before, we hope you are ready for a real Territory triathlon experience. Lake Bennett is a must do race on our calendar and the location and late afternoon start time ensures we will have a very different tri experience to that of our usual events.

It’s our big club event of the year and will be great to see you all there. We will also be joined by a number of interstate athletes many seeking to earn selection points towards their bid to make the TA Age Group team for ITU Olympic Distance World Championships in Auckland in October. Let’s give them our warmest Darwin Tri Club welcome!

Please note we are using the carpark at the Resort as transition. If you aren’t booked at the Resort for the night, you will need to park outside. On the way in, it will help if you drive past the Resort gates before parking. We ask that you consider the safety of competitors prior to parking and make sure you are well off the road.

JUNIOR REPORT:

Lee Wilson reports on the NT School Sport Triathlon Team:

“Congratulations to all our juniors for successfully completing the School Sport National Triathlon Champs last week. From all reports they had a great week away and once again demonstrated exceptional maturity, teamwork and camaraderie to each other and all other athletes. Our team was up against the best juniors in the country and we are very proud of their efforts and attitude towards the race. It has been a pleasure to see the team develop over the past 2 years and last week capped off a fantastic 2011/12 season so well done all. I would also like to express my thanks to Rowan for all the work she put into the school sport campaign. There was a lot of work done behind the scenes to make this possible for our juniors and without Rowan’s support this wouldn’t have happened. She also did an awesome job on her own last week looking after the team and kept us all informed of what was happening during the event.”

Results:
Juniors 400/12/3: Jasper (Alice Springs) 49:35; Bella Hatty 48:24
Intermediate 600/16/4: Joseph White 57:37; Hamish Wiltshire 1:01; Louise Jettner 1:04

OTHER NEWS:

1. Announced yesterday: The Cairns 2.80.20 has been changed to Ironman 70.3 Cairns. The local reactions ranged from “Yay, we don’t have to swim as far” to “Can I make 90km on the bike?”.

2. Monica Stewart is also competing at the Sydney Triathlon this weekend along with Haydn Whitty and Trevor Moses. Good luck !

3. Kathy McKay is finding lots of hills to train on, she’s going to be strong on the bike for Cairns.

4. Damian Brown is winging his way to Paris for the Paris Marathon.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN …

… you don’t think it’s odd to have a bike in the bedroom
… your bike has had an overhaul in preparation for the weekend
… you spend more time cleaning your bike than your car

Safe training,
Cheers,
Robyn
