OTHER NEWS:

1. One of our new members, Aileen Kollasch has set her sights on competing in the Alice Springs Masters Games. Aileen reports her training is coming along well. She won't be fast she says, but will have fun. Oh, and by the way Aileen is 74 years young and this will be her first triathlon.

2. More tri baby news. Stacey & Kris Bitz have baby number two on the way. Congratulations. There are also a couple of arrival's due any time .. Helen Clayton and Kate Bradbury are both due any day now.

3. Did you know the Flickr page (link below) now has close to 1200 photos up. The page has also just ticked over 10,400 views.

4. The weather in WA last weekend must have been bad: The organisers of an adventure race in Albany say cold temperatures and strong winds forced most teams to cut short the course. About 250 competitors took part in the inaugural Great Southern Adventure Race, which was staged over the weekend. Olympic rower Sally Newmarch and her team, including Western Australian Triathlete of the Year, Sean O'Neill, won the 200 kilometre race. Event spokesperson Naantali Marshall says all 50 teams finished the race, but only one team completed the course.

"Unfortunately when they got up very early on Sunday morning at 3:00am for the 4:00am race briefing, they were greeted by gale force winds, cold temperatures and some quite heavy rain. So that certainly didn't make conditions easy and the race as fun as it should have been."

5. And spare a thought for those in Alice Springs still cleaning up after the wild weather.

6. The junior committee is busy preparing for the opening event on the junior calendar. The juniors kick off on 19 October 08 at Lake Alexander. The juniors are supported this year by a grant from Woolworths and a generous donation from Jerome. So its time to get the kids bikes roadworthy and make sure the helmet fits.

7. Michellie Jones has withdrawn from the Oct. 11 Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, after suffering a slight tear to her right calf in Cancun last Sunday. She was a dnf after recording the fastest bike split.

8. A new race in the States next year will introduce real time GPS athlete tracking which will be up on screens for spectators to view. Exciting development in the sport.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...

... you give serious consideration to the colour of your elastic laces

... you are off to buy a new Qantas bike box because yours just won't make one more flight

... you can't believe Noosa is almost here again

Triathlon 3 x the fun
Cheers
Robyn
