Young and aspiring athletes aged 18 to 23 will be able to accumulate points towards this ranking at the U23 ITU Triathlon World Championships, ITU Triathlon World Cups and their respective U23 continental championships.

6. With the Perth Challenge happening this weekend, earning selection points for the Age Group team for World Champs on the Gold Coast is on a lot of minds. After Perth there is one remaining race where points can be earned to make the Olympic Distance team ie the Geelong Challenge taking place 3-5 April.

7. And on selections, if you are hoping to make any of the teams (Olympic Distance [OD], Sprint Distance [SD] or Long Distance [LD] ) please make sure you are aware of the closing date for applications as these will be strictly adhered to. Selection criteria can be viewed at www.triathlon.org.au

8. Please note - NT Long Course Triathlon was a selection points earner for LD World Champs (October in Perth) and NT Sprint Distance Championships was also a points earner for those targeting the SD World Champs (September on Gold Coast).

9. On the Australian age group teams there are a number of points to consider. First up, it is fully self funded. Secondly you are required to sign an athlete agreement. They aren't just a rock up the day before events. Again all this sort of detail is available on Triathlon Australia's website and if you are seriously thinking of competing at any of the ITU Age Group World Championship events, I strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with all the relevant documents.
