Robyn's E News 15 July 09

Hi All,

Appears many are itching to gauge their form (and cycle strength after all that T d F viewing) & being the last local triathlon opportunity before the Long Course (as well as Jerome's last appearance at a club race), we are expecting a big turnout for this event.

Please make a note of Presentation Night date given below. There is also news on our AGM.

4. A reminder that if your memberships aren't renewed by this weekend any pointscore points earned in July will be deleted (we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere). So, if you haven't already sorted your membership renewal or signed up for 2009/2010 we encourage you to do so ... right now. Online joining instructions are attached for your convenience.

5. We will have a current member list at the race this weekend.

DARWIN TRIATHLON CLUB AGM:

1. Darwin Triathlon Club Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday 30 August 09 prior to event at the Surf Club.

2. All committee positions are declared vacant. Interested persons are sought, especially those who are too busy. (You know, ask a busy person if you want something done.) Sounds like you, please speak to one of the current committee members.

DARWIN TRIATHLON CLUB PRESENTATION NIGHT:

1. Date Claimer: Blank out all other social activities the first weekend in September. You won't want to miss our annual presentation night dinner Saturday 5 September 09 at the Ski Club.

2. More details to come but basically we have booked the venue, we aren't pre-selling tickets this year so you can purchase dinner and drinks to suit. How easy is that !

3. This will be a family friendly night (well, at least the early stages) and kids are welcome.

4. Your Dag of Year and Best Bike Crash nominations for 08/09 are requested. We need your help in choosing our Dag of the Year for 2008/2009. If you have someone in mind, please email with a brief outline of the "daggy" deed done, when, where etc. All nominations are confidential, so feel free to spill the beans on those among us who have had a "daggy" experience during the year. Criteria for Bike Crash award is self explanatory, so think back and let us know who came off and where. Send to darwintriclub@bigpond.com .

5. Current Dag of the Year is Phill Hatty and Rosie Sullivan holds the Bike Crash award.

OTHER NEWS:

1. TA are on fire with membership cards. My new card was in my purse less than a week after renewing.

2. Athletics NT advise that an opportunity exists to have brekkie with Beijing Olympic gold medallist and World Champion Val Vili and her coach Kirsten Hellier who will be hosting a breakfast at The Holiday Inn, Esplanade on Friday July 17th. Val and Kirsten will chat about the road to gold, anecdotes collected on the way and answer your questions in an open forum. $30. Further info: Contact Stuart at NT Athletics 8945 1979.

3. Phil Blumberg attended the annual TA Technical Committee meeting in Sydney last weekend.

4. I like blue bikes. Rumour has it that the new Giant TT Bike (Trinity Advanced SL) will be released next year. Photos have it in blue. Mmmmm !

5. Another athletics one - there will be an open presentation by Dev. Officer Stuart Dempster titled "Training Winning Kids" at the NTIS Conference Room Thursday 23 July 09 at 1830hrs. No charge. More info: 8945 1979

6. Listen out for Mick Outhred on Territory FM's (104.1) Saturday morning sports show between 7-10am. Micko - the new Jeff Larsen in the making.

7. Was anyone able to watch Network Ten's one HD channel replay of the women's ITU race at Kitzbuhel, Austria yesterday? The men's race is scheduled to show at 4pm today.

8. Ladies, it may be best to stay out of the pool judging by this report: "Magdalena Kwiatkowska is absolutely certain her thirteen-year-old daughter is pregnant because of wayward sperm wafting about in the currents of an Egyptian hotel's swimming pool. She is so certain, in fact, that her daughter's delicate condition is due to "something in the water" that she is suing the hotel where she and her family, including the teenager, recently spent several weeks on vacation."

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE WHEN...
... rather than be awake thinking about something, you get up and do it
... Gu is a regular ingredient of your diet
... the majority of the contents of your wardrobe are lycra based.

See you all on Sunday,
Cheers,
Robyn
