Robyn's E News 5 Aug 09

Hi All,

There were a few sorry sights around after the Darwin Cup festivities ! Also a number of weary people getting about after two full on long weekends jam packed with so many things to do.

Time now to settle in and get sorted for our next big event, the NT Long Course Triathlon Championships. John has been burning the after hours oil getting all the "official" requirements out of the way. He has also been down and measured out the course so watch for further detail. These tasks are all time consuming so don't forget to thank him for his efforts to bring us a fantastic event.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Entry for the Vietnam Triathlon (29 August 09) closes 16 August. More info: www.vietnamtriathlon.com

2. Dag of the Year nominations are still being accepted. Pete Brady has remained very silent about the fact that he is actually the current holder of this award. Phill Hatty was the previous year's winner ! I've been trying to palm it off on to him in the last couple of E News & Pete is obviously quite happy to deflect that attention from himself. We have a few nominations to hand but need more, so please report any daggy deeds done by your fellow triathletes to darwintriclub@bigpond.com (source will remain confidential).

3. Tracks Dance Company is looking for runners to participate in their upcoming performance "Endurance." Endurance tells the story of 3 very different lives and how they go about enduring it. As a runner you will be required to run/walk/jog/shuffle around the velodrome for the duration of the performance (Approximately 60 minutes). There will be breaks as well as some music cues that you will need to be familiar with. You can choose to run for 3 x 10 minute blocks or go the whole hog and get in a great training session with 3 x 20 minute blocks. Other than that, you just need to have fun and get a great workout whilst being part of a Darwin Festival Performance. Further information by email to catie.kirke@nt.gov.au or contact Catie on 0411 383 761 or Shaan 0416 675 998

4. It seems both winners and losers at the recent world swim c'ships want those suits banned and look forward to going back to a level playing field.

5. Much of the news of late has centred around who is leaving Darwin. We have had some returns as well. Robyn Kennedy is back living in Darwin and has thawed out in the warmer weather . Welcome back Robyn.

6. Nerida Godfrey has returned from her cycling tour in Europe & has many exciting tales to tell. Always great to hear that someone enjoyed their holiday so much they would go back and do it all again.

7. AUS pro triathlete Greg Bennett was injured near the end of a training ride over the weekend (tangled with a car that turned in front of him). We join the many others wishing him a very speedy recovery.

8. It's timely to remind everyone to take care out there on the roads, obey all traffic rules and always, always wear your helmet. Of course both motorists and cyclists have responsibility for avoiding accidents, but we are at greater risk & so need to shoulder the greater load of being alert and obeying laws. I can't believe there are still cyclists out there who ride against the flow of traffic without a helmet but you see it everyday.

9. Not long now until ITU World Triathlon Championships on the Gold Coast. Olympic Distance team members Chad Anderson and Monica Stewart are well in to their preparations. Meanwhile down in Alice Springs, Sprint Distance team member Loie Sharp is also looking forward to next month's event.

10. Australia is well placed in the World Champ series with Emma Moffatt leading from Andrea Hewitt (NZL) and Daniela Ryf (SUI). Emma Snowsill (recently underwent surgery) is currently sitting at 8th. In the men Mark Petzold (GER) is at the top of the pointscore, ahead of Alistair Brownlee (GBR) and Javier Gomez (ESP). Aussie's Brad Kahlefeldt (4th) and Courtney Atkinson (9th) are in the top 10.

Cheers,
Robyn
