Robyn's E News 29 March 2010

Hi All,

We had an excellent turn out for Race 2 of the Sprint Series at Lake Alexander yesterday. Our thanks to Race Director Brian Gallagher for his efforts in managing this event for us. Our thanks also to the many volunteers who helped out on the day, your efforts are greatly appreciated by all the competitors.

I'd forgotten how much effort it takes to get through a sprint distance event. Big wake up call for someone with all slow twitch muscle fibres !

Racing was fast and furious especially at the top end of the field.

But oh dear oh dear ... we did have a couple of naughty people who didn't listen too well to Brian's race brief or read the notes in the last E News. We did not have road closure for the event which means stopping if the traffic lights are RED. So I shouldn't be standing still looking at red traffic lights and have people fly past me and up the road through the red lights.

This is very important at all our events. It is very obvious that it is a DTC event and if our members are reported for disobeying traffic regulations our permits could be in jeopardy. So please remember RED means STOP !

Mmmm, on those drafting out there yesterday, and you know who you were ... DRAFTING IS CHEATING ... just don't do it, it's against the rules of our sport. Drafting doesn't just happen, you have to make a conscious choice to do it. It's just as easy to decide NOT to draft, so please make that choice at our future events. It was good to see that most of our members abide by the rules.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Ron Griep's tall frame was missing from our event yesterday. Ron was in Victoria participating in the Murray-to-Moyne 24 hr relay event. He was in a team of 10 riders. The event started at Echuca, finished at Fort Fairy (520km). Teams have 3 riders on the road doing stages of 20-35 kms. Bunch ride over last 90 kms (Hamilton-Port Fairy).

2. Media Hound - see attached pdf

3. Mooloolaba results aren't yet available (unless you have access to the Courier Mail newspaper). Our guys and gals had a mixed bag from all reports. Angelika Hannon's tummy hadn't quite returned to normal after a week in Vietnam; Chad Anderson had to work really, really hard to make up time on the bike & pushed himself to the limit during his first hitout in open category and Kyle Gear managed to get himself DQ'd.

4. Garry Silk was over doing the Guam Xterra yesterday. Results to follow.

5. Stu Fitch was a finalist in the NT Sports Awards Masters category. Congratulations Stu.

6. I had a bit of biff with Phil Lewis in the swim yesterday. Turned out Phil hadn't heard the swim was two laps and was heading straight up the lake. Took a bit pushing and shoving to convince him to go round the buoy! I'll make sure I'm on his inside next time.

7. It was great to see so many of our little tri babies out "supporting" yesterday. Triathletes certainly make gorgeous babies!

8. The annual Kununurra Triathlon will take place on 15 May 10. Attached is some info regarding getting there and possible places to stay. This year the long course will be 750m/24km/5km with the short course being 250m/8km/2.5km. Anyone going over this year?

9. A big welcome to all our new members, we hope you enjoyed our event yesterday and that we will see lots more of you in the future.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
