OTHER NEWS:

1. The stork did get airborne on Monday and landed out at the Sheffield's place at 10.30pm Kylie & Paul's baby girl was born safely at home, weighing 6 lbs 8 and a half ounces (3.104 kilos). Mum, baby and family are all doing well. For the next couple of weeks Kylie will be hanging at home and enjoying a well-earned ‘babymoon’ with close family.

2. The thrills and spills of the Tour de Crash just keep on happening.

3. Paul Bell leaves chilly Alice Springs this week, heading for Challenge Roth.

BLAST FROM THE PAST:

My piece in Monday's E News sent many down memory lane including Dan McIntyre. Dan remembers that first club ride and says Ernie Koch rode his carbon fibre Look bike, and only a few had aerobars and clipless pedals. Jason Jones was one of the very early members of the club, and Keith Hansen was the perennial runner-up to Greg Bush in most of the races.

In those days, Nightcliff Pool was the centre of the Darwin triathlon scene - Greg Bush was the manager of the pool and the head coach of NC Swimming Club. The first place to sell Power Bars in Darwin was at the pool. Daniel Hill was the first to use the Scott clip on bars, and Dan was himself the first to use the Profile clip-ons. He thinks Phil Gabel brought the bars over from France for Daniel.

The old Rosetto's Sports Centre in the city was the top bike shop of its day. John DaCosta used to sell all the top-end gear - Zipp wheels, Giro helmets etc. John was then the manager of the bike section of Rosettos (before opening Bikes to Fit). Paul (top mechanic at Cycle Zone) was the other mechanic at Rosettos.

Dan's parents were able to convince Keith Kemps in Casuarina Square (also now closed) to stock Scott Tinley Performancewear - all the rage in tri fashion back then.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
