Hi All,

With weather like this, we should give thanks that we live in triathlon paradise! It's absolutely perfect for training at the moment.

Spare a thought for our friends in Alice Springs and interstate who are all packing away the tri gear for the winter and here we are about to start full on into all our big events.

We have a shorter triathlon at Lake Alexander this weekend. These distances are always very popular and we are looking forward to a big crowd. Note that start time for this one is 7.30am. It would be great if you could come along a little earlier though and help with setting up. Your assistance with packing up is also always appreciated.

RESULTS:

1. Tavis Ultra, Alice Springs, 2km swim, 60km bike, 15km run

NEXT EVENT:

Sunday 9 May 2010
Lake Alexander
Triathlon
7.30am (Registration closes 7.15am sharp)
300m swim, 13km bike, 3km run

Race Director: Dingo Hall 8985 6665
Registration: Daryl Stanley / Chad Anderson
Timekeepers: Kylie Sheffield / Bertram Birk
Fruit / Ice: Liam Johnson

Note:

1. We don't have road closure so athletes must stop if traffic lights are RED. This is really, really, really important. If any of our competitors are reported by members of the public for riding through the lights it can jeopardize our chances of obtaining permits for future events.

2. Can we please keep up the no drafting ethic. It's been fantastic to see people making a real effort to stay the regulation 7 metres apart and it makes for much more satisfying event results for everyone concerned.

3. For the benefit of newer members or those wishing to brush up, attached is summary of the 10 most important triathlon rules to remember.

HOW CAN I HELP?:

1. Small contributions can help with the running of our events and take the load off those volunteers who always seem to be doing it all.

2. Some of the little things you can do that take zip effort are to help set up racks; check that the esky lid is kept shut so drinks have a chance to cool; drinks sitting beside the esky ?? ... whack them in and add some ice if supplies are getting low; help cut up some fruit or other post race refreshments; put rubbish in the bins; offer to go out and collect signs once the bike is finished or just ask RD of the day if there is anything to be done.

3. We really appreciate the contributions made by all our volunteers.

OTHER NEWS:

1. Craig Alexander suffered some road rash and bike damage after coming down at St Croix.

2. Mid week form guide: Tim Ellison was spotted getting in some early morning ride time; Jason Jones' footy form looks good; Jamie Tomlinson is getting in some extra swim time; Kyle Gear has been lake lapping and Tara Luck is back from Nhulunbuy and back into it!

3. Good to catch up with Rowie Eastick who has been in town. Rowie is based in Thailand and needs to come back occasionally to top up her supplies of WeetBix.

4. The Tavis Ultra events went off well in Alice Springs. The honours went to the volunteers who enabled the Ultra and the following events take place. There was a very positive vibe at the inaugural Tavis Ultra which was a credit to the familles and to everyone who was present on the day. The attendance of family and friends of Tavis made the occasion very special. Great to see Ironman Tim Pearson back in action. The event heralded a revitalized interest in the Ultra and the foundation has been established for a fantastic annual event in Alice Springs.

5. Good to see Loie Sharp's dodgy knees held out and she was able to go the distance. Knee's objected to the 15km but said "OK. It's just for Tav".

6. Some recent media reports have news of Emma Snowsill's anticipated comeback as Seoul and have mistakenly used Emma Moffatt's photo. With a couple of other up and coming Emma's racing for Oz it was bound to happen.

7. Javier Gomez is also tipped to comeback in Seoul.

8. We had some timing difficulties at Lake Bennett following an equipment malfunction. Our fantastic volunteer timekeepers did a brilliant job on the day & with some quick thinking got most times down albeit missing about 15 mins on each time. With much effort the following day, we were able to salvage the results and get the overall times to you .... without you even noticing a problem !! Bringing you your splits then took some doing, but we know how much you look forward to those. A few minor split amendments have since been made so check the website for updated results.

Safe Training,
Cheers,
Robyn
